This position is suited for professionals with a strong background in electrical engineering, mechatronics, and/or motion control systems. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.\nJob Responsibilities:\nDevelop and conduct system level architecture trades that include both electromechanical actuators and motion control electronics, including closed-loop systems\nPerform advanced simulations of electromechanical systems (dynamics, performance, etc)\nDecompose system requirement documents into component requirement documents\nConduct tests and simulations to validate the performance of electromechanical systems and components.\nOwn the technical input into the make / buy trade of motion control electronics, staying up to date with both internal and external offerings\nDocument design processes, test results, and modifications for future reference\nReadiness to learn and receive instruction and mentorship from more experienced engineers.\nStay up to date with the latest advancements in electrical engineering and provide guidance on future strategy of motion control electronics within the department.\nMinimum Qualifications:\nRequires Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree or Masters +3 yrs experience).\nTypically 5+ years of related experience.\nAdvanced knowledge of electrical fundamentals, applicable tools, methodologies, and principles.\nExperience with simulation software like SPICE, Simsolid, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar.\nPrior experience in motor design and motor selection.\nSolid grasp of position feedback devices, such as potentiometers, resolvers, and encoders\nIntermediate knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation.\nExperience performing trade studies to support subsystem architecture decisions, including risk identification and management.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience serving as a Responsible Engineer (RE), driving hardware through its lifecycle, including development, qualification, integration & Test, Verification & Validation, and certification.\nProficiency in electrical design software such as Capital, AutoCAD Electrical, Altium Designer, or similar tools.\nAbility to perform circuit analysis and troubleshooting using tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.\nHands-on experience in assembly, integration, and test\nStrong leadership and communication skills.\nKnowledge of electronics for spaceflight motor control applications, including:Motor Types (Stepper, BLDC, 2-phase, 3-phase)\nTelemetry types (Potentiometer, Resolver, Encoder)\nCommunication protocol (RS-422, CAN, Bilevel voltage, etc)\nRadiation environments (LEO, MEO, GEO)\nEEE parts (derating, classes, obsolescence, etc)\n\nCompensation:\nPay Range:\n$112,694.00 - $154,975.25Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.\nElevate Your Career\nAt Sierra Space, we are committed to your personal and professional development.
