Joining Signicat means contributing to a mission that has a real impact on how society works and trusting each other in an increasingly digital world.\nAbout the Role\nWe are looking for a Java/Kotlin Engineer to join the team behind Signicat’s MobileID and Digital Identity Wallet solutions. You will help build and scale secure, reliable services that support authentication, identity verification, payment confirmations and the issuing of digital credentials across Europe.\nYou’ll work closely with other engineering teams to design and develop the core services and interfaces that power our products. The team takes ownership of the solutions it builds, from development through to running them in production, and uses modern, AI-assisted ways of working to solve problems efficiently and deliver high-quality results.\nWhat will you work on:\nDesign, build and maintain the microservices at the core of the Signicat’s MobileID and Digital Identity Wallet solutions.\n\nOwn your services end to end, from code and tests through deployment, monitoring and how they actually behave in production.\n\nWork on the delivery platform alongside the rest of the team.\n\nStrengthen the security of the solution: threat modelling, keeping current with standards, and the authentication protocols and key handling the whole product rests on.\n\nTake part in architecture decisions and technical discussions, within the team and across the client and service teams.\n\nCore technologies you will get to work with:\nLanguages: Java, Kotlin\n\nFrameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Ktor\n\nCloud platforms: GCP (production SaaS), AWS (test automation)\n\nContainers and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm\n\nDelivery: ArgoCD (GitOps), GitLab CI, Jenkins\n\nInfrastructure-as-code: Terraform\n\nAPIs: RESTful API development in Java and Kotlin (Spring, Ktor)\n\nDatabases: MySQL, Oracle\n\nOperating systems: Linux.\n\nWhat we expect:\n2+ years of experience with Java and/or Kotlin.\n\nComfortable working with Spring or a comparable JVM framework, and experienced in designing REST APIs used by other teams.\n\nCloud infrastructure experience (AWS or Google).\n\nReal experience running services on Kubernetes (not only handing over a Dockerfile to someone else).\n\nHands-on knowledgeof relational databases, ideally MySQL (exposure to PostgreSQL orother relational databasesis also relevant).\n\nA security instinct: you think about what an attacker would do with the API you just designed.\n\nDemonstrated experience using AI tools and integrating them into everyday work.\n\nStrong English proficiency, both written and spoken.\n\nBonus points for:\nExperience with Helm, ArgoCD or other GitOps tooling.\n\nTerraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code.\n\nOAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect in production, not just in theory.\n\nCryptography, key management or HSMs.\n\nMobile authentication, biometrics or device attestation.\n\nRegulated environments such as PSD2 and strong customer authentication, or eIDAS.\n\nWhat we offer\nFully remote role in Portugal- for candidates based in Portugal, this role is fully remote, giving you the flexibility to work from wherever you are.\n\nHybrid work style in Romania- for candidates based in Romania, we offer a hybrid working model, with an expectation to work from our Bucharest office 3 days per week.\n\nTailored benefits package by location -
