Job Summary
Responsible for driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across the software engineering tooling ecosystem used by R&D teams across the organization. The role acts as a senior functional specialist for software development and DevOps tooling and helps ensure that shared engineering platforms remain efficient, scalable, and aligned with the evolving needs of engineering teams.
Examples of supported platforms include Jira, Confluence, GitHub, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Bamboo, Artifactory and other software engineering, DevOps, and developer productivity tools.
The Software Tooling Support Engineer partners with engineering stakeholders, architects, support teams, and suppliers to optimize platform usage, translate engineering needs into effective tooling solutions, and deliver continuous improvements across the software engineering landscape.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Tooling Domain Support & Optimization
- Act as a specialist for assigned software engineering tools and platforms.
- Ensure supported platforms remain reliable, efficient and aligned with engineering needs.
- Drive analysis of usage patterns, recurring issues, and stakeholder feedback to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities.
- Support operational decision-making and optimization activities within assigned tooling domains.
Advanced Application Support & Configuration
- Lead resolution of complex incidents, functional issues and platform related challenges.
- Coordinate troubleshooting efforts involving multiple teams, suppliers or platform integrations.
- Review and implement complex configuration changes and enhancements.
- Support platform upgrades, migrations, modernization activities, and lifecycle improvements.
Continuous Improvement & Automation
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving platform performance, usability and engineering productivity.
- Identify and drive automation opportunities that reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
- Support adoption of new tooling capabilities and engineering practices.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into practical application improvements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Service Delivery
- Act as a key contact for engineering teams within assigned domains.
- Collaborate with support partners and suppliers to resolve operational challenges and improve service quality.
- Lead tooling-related workstreams and improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance on tooling capabilities, best practices and operational improvements.
Knowledge Leadership
- Maintain and improve operational standards, documentation and knowledge assets.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across the team.
- Support onboarding and coaching of less experienced engineers.
- Contribute to the development of support capabilities and ways of working.

Critical Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in software tooling support, application management or software engineering environments.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale software engineering tooling and platforms.
- Strong understanding of software development processes, DevOps practices and CI/CD environments.
- Proven experience driving application improvements, automation initiatives or platform optimization activities.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
