You will work on software that supports both proprietary and standards-based wireless systems, contributing to technology used across a broad range of IoT applications.\nThis is a great opportunity for an experienced embedded engineer who enjoys working close to the hardware, solving complex technical problems, and owning software from concept through release. While experience in wireless systems is a plus, we are also excited to hear from candidates with strong embedded systems fundamentals who want to grow deeper in wireless applications.\nMeet the Team :\nThe RAIL team develops the Radio Abstraction Interface Layer (RAIL) SDK, a common radio software platform that helps customers build wireless applications without needing to master device-specific radio details. Our work enables everything from low-power battery-operated devices to more complex multi-protocol systems.\nAs part of this team, you will collaborate closely with firmware, silicon, systems, and test engineers to deliver high-quality embedded software that helps customers build innovative connected products.\nResponsibilities :\nAs a Senior Embedded Software Engineer on the RAIL team, you will:\n\nDesign, develop, and maintain embedded software for Silicon Labs low-power wireless MCUs and SDKs\n\nOwn support for hardware features through the entire IC lifecycle (design, pre-silicon verification, post-silicon verification, release and long-term support)\n\nBuild and enhance low-level firmware components such as device drivers, initialization and startup code, timing-sensitive system software, and radio control features\n\nOptimize software for performance, reliability, power efficiency, and memory/CPU utilization in real-time embedded environments\n\nDebug complex issues across software, firmware, hardware, and system boundaries using lab tools and debuggers\n\nCollaborate with hardware, silicon, systems, and product teams to define requirements, review designs, and support bring-up of new devices\n\nContribute to automated test, validation, and development tooling to improve product quality and engineering efficiency\n\nParticipate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions that raise engineering quality across the team\n\nMentor and support other engineers through technical guidance, collaboration, and best practices\n\nSkills You Will Need :\nMinimum Qualifications:\nBS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience\n\n7+ years of professional experience in embedded software or firmware development\n\nStrong programming skills in Embedded C and/or C++\n\nExperience developing software for microcontrollers in resource-constrained, real-time environments, including bare metal and/or RTOS-based systems\n\nStrong debugging skills at the hardware/software boundary, with hands-on experience using tools such as debuggers, JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers\n\nExperience working on low-level embedded software such as device drivers, interrupts, peripheral interfaces, timing-sensitive code, or memory-constrained systems\n\nExperience taking features from design through implementation, test, and release\n\nStrong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills\n\nNice to Have (Preferred Qualifications):\nExperience with wireless or connectivity technologies such as Bluetooth LE, Zigbee, Thread, Wi-Fi, or proprietary radio systems\n\nExperience with communication stacks, radio control software, PHY/MAC-related functionality, or other timing-critical embedded software\n\nExperience optimizing embedded systems for low power, performance, and reliability\n\nExperience with common embedded interfaces and peripherals such as SPI, I2C, UART, DMA, timers, and interrupts\n\nExperience with Python or similar scripting languages for tooling, automation, testing, or build workflows\n\nExperience with automated test, CI, validation frameworks, or hardware-in-the-loop test environments\n\nExperience with silicon bring-up, hardware validation, or close collaboration with chip or board design teams\n\nExperience with multi-core microcontrollers, concurrency, synchronization, or shared-resource challenges\n\nFamiliarity with assembly on ARM, RISC-V, or similar MCU architectures\n\nExperience with artificial intelligence (AI) powered tools and technologies used to enhance productivity, analysis, and decision-making\n\nExperience using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar) to support prototyping, test development, debugging, automation, and documentation, with strong engineering judgment and validation practices\n\nWhy Join Silicon Labs :\nWork on foundational wireless technology used across a wide range of IoT products\n\nSolve interesting technical problems at the intersection of embedded software, hardware, and wireless systems\n\nCollaborate with experienced engineers across firmware, silicon, systems, and test\n\nMake a direct impact on technology that helps customers bring connected products to market faster\n\nContinue growing your technical depth in embedded systems and wireless applications\n\nAdditional Information\nIf you are excited about embedded systems and meet many, but not all, of the qualifications above, we encourage you to apply.
