This a remote role with expert knowledge in Ruby on Rails and heavy backend experience to help us roll-out the multitude of features and service improvements we have planned.\nAbout You\nYou are a passionate, talented engineer, willing to push the limits of existing technology and create the best possible customer experience\nYou love building products that help thousands of customers in their day-to-day lives\nYou drive design and execution from ideation to launch using a hands-on approach to coordinating engineers and AI agents\nYou have expert knowledge in backend Ruby on Rails software development and data engineering\nYour work has a heavier emphasis on backend APIs, data models, and data pipelines to support customer-facing reporting and analytics\nResponsibilities\nBuild out the next generation practice management reporting platform with a builder mindset and product-focused approach, creating solutions that are robust, scalable, and easy to use\nOwn the technical design and delivery of increasingly complex reporting requirements, including a generalized reporting platform and potential AI-enabled access to data sources which could require substantial infrastructure and data-modeling improvements\nCollaborate with our product team to understand customer needs, define upcoming features, and catch and troubleshoot problems before customers do\nWrite - coordinate AI agents to write - clean, efficient, and well-tested code that improves our code base in meaningful ways with a focus on performance and scalability\nDesired Skills & Experience\n8+ years of senior-level full-stack engineering with deep, hands-on expertise in Ruby on Rails or other web application frameworks\nExperience with LLMs and advanced, hands-on fluency with AI coding tools like Cursor, Codex, and Claude Code\nStrong systems design and judgment across APIs, multi-platform distributed systems, observability, and reliability specifically related to reporting and analytics\nStrong SQL query-writing skills with exposure to dbt\nWorking knowledge of OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or DynamoDB and an understanding of data warehouses/columnar databases such as Snowflake, AWS Redshift, ClickHouse, or StarRocks\nDesign and implementation of large, scalable web applications and an appreciation for clean, elegant, and simple code\nUnderstanding the value and nuances of automated testing especially as it applies to AI workflows\nProven track record of mentoring other engineers\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills working with remote teams, using Slack, GitHub, Linear, Notion, Zoom, and similar productivity tools\nBonus Points\nWeb application security, plus PCI or HIPAA compliance experience\nProduction troubleshooting and infrastructure: Docker, MySQL, Postgres, Redis, NGINX, AWS, Linux, Terraform/Ansible\nBenefits\nWe offer a competitive benefits program including:\nMedical, dental, vision, life & disability insurance\n401(k) plan with company match \nFlexible Time Off (FTO), wellbeing days, paid holidays, and summer Fridays\nMental health resources\nPaid parental leave & Backup Care\nTuition reimbursement\nEmployee Resource Groups (ERGs)\nCalifornia Job Applicant Privacy Notice\nThank you for your interest in opportunities at SimplePractice LLC (“SimplePractice” or “us” or “we” or “our”).
