You will be responsible for taking ambiguous requirements, shaping them into practical technical solutions and delivering features through to production.\nThe role will primarily involve Python, with Flask, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL and Celery, while also contributing to an ongoing migration of parts of the platform to Go.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical Delivery\nDesign, develop and deliver backend features using Python and Go.\nWork with Flask, SQLAlchemy and PostgreSQL.\nTake ownership of features from requirements through to production.\nDevelop database migrations while considering existing client data and rollback requirements.\nDesign and maintain background processing using Celery.\nDiagnose and resolve issues under load and in production environments.\nWrite and optimise SQL where the ORM is not the appropriate solution.\nDesign and maintain stable, versioned REST APIs.\nEnsure API backward compatibility.\nContribute to the migration of existing services to Go.\nMake appropriate technical and architectural decisions.\nInvestigate production issues and identify root causes.\nEngineering Quality\nWrite automated tests using pytest.\nConduct code reviews with a focus on architecture, maintainability and long-term quality.\nIdentify technical debt and potential technical risks.\nImprove documentation and record technical decisions.\nPromote sustainable development practices.\nCollaborate with DevOps on CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code and deployment strategies.\nMentoring & Team Collaboration\nMentor junior and intermediate engineers.\nProvide technical guidance through code reviews and pairing sessions.\nHelp less experienced engineers understand the codebase and business domain.\nContribute to technical design and architecture discussions.\nWork closely with Product, QA and Operations teams.\nTranslate business and mining-domain requirements into practical technical solutions.\nChallenge requirements where necessary and provide appropriate alternatives.\nContinuous Improvement\nDrive improvements to development processes, tooling and engineering practices.\nIdentify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability.\nStay current with relevant backend engineering technologies and best practices.\nContribute to establishing engineering standards as the team grows.\nMinimum Requirements\n6+ years' professional backend software development experience.\n10+ years' experience is preferred.\nStrong production experience with Python.\nStrong experience with Flask, Django or FastAPI.\nWorking experience with Go, or strong backend fundamentals with the ability to learn new languages quickly.\nStrong experience with an ORM, preferably SQLAlchemy or equivalent.\nConfident writing and tuning hand-written SQL.\nStrong experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.\nExperience with background processing and message queues such as Celery, RabbitMQ, Redis or equivalent.\nExperience designing and evolving REST APIs.\nUnderstanding of API versioning and backward compatibility.\nUnderstanding of authentication and authorisation.\nStrong Git experience, including branching strategies and code review.\nComfortable using Docker for local development.\nHow To Apply:\nContact Hire Resolve today for your next career-changing move\nOur client is offering a highly competitive salary for this role based on experience.\nSend your CV to:  or connect with Mischa Bornman via LinkedIn.\nAlternatively, you can also contact me directly at Hire Resolve \nWe will contact you telephonically in 3 days should you be suitable for this vacancy.
