Singtel is Singapore's largest telecommunications group and traces its origins to a colonial telegraph service established in 1879. It operates mobile and fixed networks in Singapore and holds major stakes in operators across Asia including Optus and Bharti Airtel. The group also runs NCS, data centres and regional cybersecurity businesses.

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

This role is based in Macquarie Park, Sydney. As Senior Technical Specialist, AusAlert, you’ll be a subject matter expert within our Integration & Maintenance Engineering team, responsible for the integration, testing, lifecycle management and technical support of critical messaging and public warning platforms. You’ll take ownership of AusAlert CBC and related messaging services, provide Tier 3 support, lead complex fault investigations and help ensure reliable, secure and resilient service delivery across the Optus network.

This is a hands-on senior technical role requiring independent judgement, technical leadership and a willingness to participate in late-night and weekend work when required.

What You'll Do

  • Own Tier 3 technical support for AusAlert CBC and related messaging platforms, leading complex fault analysis, root-cause investigations and vendor escalations.
  • Execute recovery and restoration activities, manage AusAlert configuration and implement approved patches, upgrades, capacity changes and other lifecycle activities.
  • Maintain integration and interoperability across CBE systems, MME and AMF platforms, broadcast gateways and other network interfaces.
  • Analyse broadcast performance, capacity and congestion, recommending improvements that support reliable mass alerts and multi-RAT broadcasts.
  • Lead testing, integration and production cutovers for new software, hardware, features and services, including appropriate validation and rollback procedures.
  • Support security, audit and regulatory requirements, while maintaining production-level test environments and accurate engineering documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to Operations, Tier 1 teams, junior engineers and the wider business during incidents, drills and emergency exercises.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • A technical qualification in Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience, years’ telecommunications experience including 2 or more years in Tier 2 operations.
  • Strong experience with mobile network messaging platforms and protocols, including 4G and 5G technologies, IP networking, platform administration and Linux or Unix.
  • Demonstrated capability in fault analysis, major incident management, log and trace analysis, capacity management and troubleshooting across complex network environments.
  • Experience with testing methodologies, proof-of-concept activities, integration testing, production deployments, automation, virtualisation and CI/CD environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work with vendors, carriers, cross-functional teams and senior leaders.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities and participate in late-night and weekend activities when required.

The good stuff…

  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts.
  • Make life easier and more affordable with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional ‘Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 - in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • Free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences.

We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
