We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Device Services team within the Growth Engineering organization.\nThe Device Services team owns a collection of high-throughput, low-latency services responsible for device metadata management, device authentication, and critical client bootstrap workflows. These services are among the earliest systems invoked during application startup and play a foundational role in establishing device trust, enabling access, and supporting seamless user experiences across SiriusXM products.\nOur team operates services that verify the authenticity of SXM-generated chipsets, manage device lifecycle information, and publish critical device-related events used throughout the SiriusXM platform. The systems we build and operate serve tens of millions of listeners and connected devices across North America and are designed for exceptional reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.\nWhat you’ll do:\nDesign, build, operate, and evolve highly available services responsible for device identity, authentication, metadata management, and device lifecycle workflows.\nDevelop low-latency, high-throughput systems that sit on the critical path of client application startup and access flows.\nCollaborate with engineers across User & Identity, Vehicle Services, Client SDK, Platform, and Data Engineering teams to deliver reliable end-to-end experiences.\nDrive software quality through thoughtful design reviews, code reviews, testing strategies, and operational best practices.\nInvestigate production issues, perform root cause analysis, and continuously improve system reliability, observability, and performance.\nParticipate in architecture discussions and help shape the future evolution of SiriusXM’s device trust and authentication platform.\nWhat you’ll need:\n5+ years of professional experience.\nExperience building backend systems in Scala, Java, Kotlin, or similar JVM languages; experience with Scala and functional programming is highly desirable.\nExperience designing and implementing RESTful web APIs in an enterprise setting.\nDeep understanding of the software development lifecycle, including the use of source control, CI/CD and various testing approaches.\nDeep distributed systems knowledge, having supported multiple high-throughput systems in a production setting.\nExperience with AWS in a production setting, preferably having leveraged offerings for compute, databases, storage, containers and serverless technologies.\nExperience with asynchronous programming models, ideally those that support high-throughput systems running on the JVM in a production setting.\nPragmatic approach to weighing engineering tradeoffs versus business needs.\nPersistent sense of curiosity to understand why something is and needs to be.\nAccountability and a sense of extreme ownership that doesn’t end after the system is deployed to production.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nOur goal at SiriusXM is to provide and maintain a work environment that fosters mutual respect, professionalism, and cooperation.
