We are shaping the future of work itself.\nWe are looking for a skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator with 3-5 years of hands-on experience in PostgreSQL database administration, performance optimization, backup and recovery, replication, and troubleshooting.\nThe candidate should possess strong PostgreSQL administration fundamentals and be capable of independently troubleshooting database issues, performing routine DBA activities, and ensuring database availability, performance, and reliability. Basic knowledge of NoSQL databases, preferably MongoDB, is also required.\nKey Responsibilities\nPostgreSQL Database Administration\nPerform day-to-day PostgreSQL database administration, monitoring, and maintenance activities.\nConduct regular database health checks and proactively identify potential issues.\nIndependently troubleshoot database errors, connection issues, performance bottlenecks, and operational incidents.\nManage database users, roles, permissions, schemas, and access privileges.\nMonitor database capacity, resource utilization, connections, and storage growth.\nMaintain PostgreSQL configuration parameters and recommend improvements based on workload requirements.\nBackup, Restore, and Disaster Recovery\nManage and monitor incremental and full database backups.\nPerform database restore operations and validate backup integrity.\nTroubleshoot backup failures and ensure backup jobs complete successfully.\nParticipate in disaster recovery (DR) planning, recovery procedures, and DR testing.\nUnderstand and manage Write-Ahead Logging (WAL), WAL retention, archiving, and cleanup.\nTroubleshoot excessive WAL generation, replication slot retention, and associated disk-space issues.\nPerformance Tuning and Optimization\nAnalyze slow queries and troubleshoot database performance issues.\nPerform query optimization using execution plans such as `EXPLAIN` and `EXPLAIN ANALYZE`.\nIdentify indexing opportunities and optimize existing indexes.\nMonitor database statistics, locks, blocking sessions, long-running queries, and resource utilization.\nPerform routine maintenance activities, including VACUUM, ANALYZE, and table/index maintenance.\nIdentify and resolve issues related to connection management, autovacuum, and table bloat.\nReplication and High Availability\nConfigure, monitor, and troubleshoot PostgreSQL streaming replication.\nUnderstand primary-replica architecture, replication lag, failover, and recovery procedures.\nManage PostgreSQL logical replication, including publications and subscriptions.\nTroubleshoot logical replication errors, replication lag, and WAL retention issues.\nUnderstand replication slots and their impact on WAL management and disk utilization.\nCloudNativePG (CNPG) and Migration\nUnderstand PostgreSQL deployment and administration in Kubernetes environments.\nAssist with or perform PostgreSQL migration from traditional deployments to CloudNativePG (CNPG).\nUnderstand CNPG cluster architecture, configuration, backup and recovery, and replica management.\nTroubleshoot database availability, failover, replication, and operational issues in CNPG environments.\nWork with DevOps and platform teams on database deployments, maintenance, and incident resolution.\nMongoDB / NoSQL Knowledge\nPossess a basic understanding of NoSQL database concepts, preferably MongoDB.\nUnderstand MongoDB architecture, replica sets, and basic administration.\nPerform basic MongoDB monitoring, health checks, and troubleshooting.\nUnderstand indexing, query performance optimization, and database maintenance.\nHave basic exposure to MongoDB upgrades and performance optimization.\nRequired Skills\n3-5 years of hands-on experience in PostgreSQL database administration.\nStrong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.\nPractical experience with backup, restore, WAL management, and recovery procedures.\nGood understanding of streaming replication, logical replication, publications, and subscriptions.\nExperience with query tuning, indexing strategies, and database performance optimization.\nKnowledge of database security, roles, privileges, and connection management.\nAbility to independently analyze and troubleshoot database issues.\nBasic knowledge of Linux commands, shell scripting, and database automation.\nBasic knowledge of MongoDB or another NoSQL database; MongoDB is preferred.\nGood analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.\nPreferred Skills\nExperience with PostgreSQL on Kubernetes or CloudNativePG (CNPG).\nExposure to PostgreSQL version upgrades and database migration activities.\nKnowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, and replication architecture.\nExperience with database monitoring tools, alerting, and operational automation.\nFamiliarity with production database support and incident management.\nCandidate Expectations\nStrong hands-on PostgreSQL administration skills rather than theoretical knowledge alone.\nAbility to independently investigate and resolve routine database issues.\nProactive approach to monitoring, preventive maintenance, and performance improvement.\nWillingness to participate in production support, incident resolution, and planned maintenance activities.\nSkan AI is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace around the world.
