You can find out more about us on https://www.slb.com/who-we-are\nLocation:\nStonehouse, Gloucestershire\nJob Summary:\nWe are seeking a highly skilled Modeling and Simulation Engineer with strong physics-based system modelling expertise in Matlab/SimuLink/SimScape to support Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) development. This role sits within a multidisciplinary embedded software team and is responsible for developing real-time models, virtual prototypes, and simulation techniques used to design, integrate, validate, and deploy complex control systems to simulate virtual environments to our products.\nThe successful candidate will contribute to modelling power electronics, motor drives, and sensor networks, while supporting product development through simulation-driven design, validation, and hardware deployment. The role also involves advancing modelling methodologies, supporting commercialization efforts, and collaborating across engineering teams.\nTypical Responsibilities and Duties:\nHIL Development & Real-Time Modeling\nDevelop, implement, and validate Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulations for engineering applications.\n\nDesign and model control systems using Simulink and Simscape with emphasis on real-time behaviour.\n\nCreate and optimize models for power electronics including switches, MOSFETs, and inverters, etc.\n\nModel motor systems such as PMSM and BLDC, along with sensors including accelerometers, IMUs, and magnetometers, etc.\n\nCompile and deploy models for execution on NI hardware targets ensuring robust integration and performance. Our existing toolchain enables easy compilation with single click functionality.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to support seamless hardware-software interaction.\n\nEngage with our partners in MathWorks/National Instruments to improve our modelling capabilities\n\nEngage with the central team to produce highly reusable models to build our library of models within the business.\n\nModeling, Simulation & Virtual Prototyping\nDevelop and maintain physics-based models of systems, subsystems, and components.\n\nCreate virtual prototypes of new products and optimize designs using computational tools.\n\nApply modeling and simulation technologies to product development needs.\n\nIntegrate and evaluate system, subsystem, and component designs.\n\nValidate and improve product robustness and performance through simulation.\n\nConduct research and recommend improvements to modeling techniques and criteria.\n\nUse version control tools to manage model revisions according to internal processes\n\nProduct Development & Engineering Support\nAnalyze, design, develop, and maintain products and assist in commercialization.\n\nScope new products, evaluate feasibility, and support engineering specification definition.\n\nEstimate development, validation, and documentation effort with project leadership.\n\nDefine testing procedures for models, algorithms, workflows, and products.\n\nConduct tests, document results, and provide corrective actions for defects.\n\nSupport implementation, testing, and sustaining of products.\n\nTechnical Leadership & Innovation\nInvestigate new development areas within modeling and simulation engineering.\n\nMaintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry practices.\n\nParticipate in technical reviews, audits, and design evaluations.\n\nContribute to modeling standards, best practices, and design reuse initiatives.\n\nSupport innovation activities including patents, technical papers, and research collaboration.\n\nMentor team members and share expertise across the organization.\n\nDocumentation, Communication & Collaboration\nCreate and maintain project and technical documentation.\n\nContribute technical content for product documentation and training materials.\n\nProvide training and support to other collaborators.\n\nDeliver presentations to technical and management audiences.\n\nParticipate in internal seminars, industry forums, and conferences.\n\nQualifications:\nDegree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related discipline.\n\nHands-on experience with NI FPGA and VeriStand FMU platforms. Familiarity with dSPACE, Speedgoat, or similar real-time environments is considered.\n\nModel architecting and Simulink toolchain - Systems Composer, Requirements manager, Test Manager.\n\nExperience with model validation and computational optimization techniques.\n\nFamiliarity with LabVIEW is desirable.\n\nRequired Technical Skills\nAdvanced proficiency in Simulink and Simscape for control system modelling.\n\nExperience with real-time system modelling in HIL environments.\n\nStrong understanding of power electronics, motor drives, and sensor modelling.\n\nExperience developing physics-based models and virtual prototypes.\n\nExperience compiling models for hardware targets and integrating with physical systems.\n\nDesirable Skills\nStrong system-level thinking and technical curiosity.\n\nProactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.\n\nExcellent communication and teamwork skills.\n\nAdaptability to evolving technologies and project requirements.\n\nInterest in mentoring and knowledge sharing.\n\nCareer Advancement:\nSLB Eureka Technical Career (SETC) provides proven technical contributors with a career path that offers them recognition, reward, and influence that parallels an equivalent management progression.
