We build the robots, we deploy them, and we keep them running.\nWe are seeking a Machinist - Laser Operator to staff our newly created machine shop with a primary focus on rapid prototyping, R&D support, and engineering iteration. This role will primarily be responsible for operating and maintaining a fiber laser cutter. Additionally, the role includes operating and maintaining a press brake, deburrer, and MIG, TIG, and laser welders. This role is central to accelerating product development-partnering closely with Engineering to quickly fabricate, test, modify, and refine components as designs evolve.\nWhile the shop will support limited production needs, the core mandate is speed, flexibility, and technical collaboration-not high-volume machining. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced development environments, can translate rough concepts into physical parts quickly, and understands how to balance precision with iteration velocity.\nResponsibilities:\nOperate and maintain a Senfeng SF3015C fiber laser cutter\nOperate and maintain a Amada FBD1253NT press brake\nOperate and maintain MIG, TIG, and laser welders\nRapid Prototyping & R&D (Primary Focus)\nPartner directly with Engineering to fabricate prototype components, test fixtures, and development hardware with fast turnaround.\nEnable rapid iteration by quickly modifying parts, optimizing toolpaths, and adjusting setups as designs evolve.\nProvide design-for-manufacturability feedback early in the development cycle.\nSupport experimental builds, mechanical validation testing, and small-batch development runs.\nHelp create flexible, reusable fixturing and processes that accelerate future iterations.\nLimited Production Support (Secondary)\nSupport short-run and bridge-production needs such as edge extensions, tray feet, brackets, and other hardware when required.\nMaintain repeatable processes and documentation to ensure consistent quality for small-batch runs. \nRequirements\nStrong CNC & CAM expertise, including 2D/3D toolpath creation and efficient G-code optimization.\nDemonstrated experience in prototype-driven or R&D-heavy environments.\nAbility to work directly with engineers to interpret evolving designs and incomplete specifications.\nStrong judgment on when to prioritize speed vs. precision in development builds.\nDeep understanding of shop safety and ability to train others.\nShop Operations: Familiarity with fabrication equipment and machine shop best practices.\nPreferred:\nRobotics Exposure: Experience working in robotics, especially in prototyping or manufacturing environments.\nERP/Inventory Systems: Experience using ERP systems to track materials or jobs.\nGeneral Fabrication: Welding, deburring, tapping, or assembly experience is a plus.\nDocumentation: Comfort documenting processes, setups, and toolpaths for repeatability.\nQualifications:\nExperience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a machine shop or fabrication setting.\nEducation: Technical training, certifications, or equivalent practical experience.\nTravel: Little to no travel required.\nPhysical: Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; comfortable working on your feet.\nAttitude: You take ownership, thrive on independence, and are excited to build something new.
