We are Making Sustainability Happen.\nAs our newSenior Environmental Data Engineer, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.\nRole\nAs our Senior Environmental Data Engineer, you’ll build and maintain custom tools, reports, and data workflows that integrate with EQuIS while working closely with clients to understand their data needs and deliver practical, scalable solutions. You’ll design and run ETL pipelines for lab, field, and logger data; develop secure REST APIs; write and optimize T-SQL; and support cloud deployments in Azure.\nYou’ll also help strengthen our engineering practices through code reviews, refactoring, and automated testing, manage CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, contribute to clear documentation, and support project teams with data requests and troubleshooting as our systems evolve. Success in this role comes from effective communication, technical expertise, and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.\nResponsibilities:\nBuild and maintain custom tools, reports, and data workflows that extend or integrate with EQuIS (EarthSoft)\nWork with internal and external clients to understand their database and data management needs, and develop solutions to meet them\nDesign and run ETL pipelines for lab, field, and logger data, including EDDs and EQuIS Live logger feeds\nBuild and secure REST APIs to move data between EQuIS and other systems, e.g. ArcGIS Online (AGOL)\nWrite and optimize T-SQL against Azure SQL and Microsoft SQL Server\nDeploy, monitor, and maintain cloud services in Azure\nUphold and improve engineering practices across the codebase, including architecture, refactoring, code reviews, and unit/integration testing\nManage and enhance source control and CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps\nContribute to and expand system documentation (READMEs, runbooks, onboarding guides) as our tools and workflows evolve\nSupport project teams with data pulls, troubleshooting, and custom technical requests\nWorking @ SLR\nWith us, there is no doubt you’ll grow your subject-matter expertise and industry knowledge. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.\nFull-time, permanent role with opportunities for professional growth and advancement\n\nQualifications/Education/Memberships:\n10+ years’ experience in environmental data management.\nBachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering/Sciences preferred.\nExperience in the following:\n5+ years of professional C# and modern .NET development within collaborative, code-reviewed teams\nStrong proficiency with SQL Server, Azure SQL, and T-SQL\nHands-on experience deploying, monitoring, and supporting applications in Azure\nSolid testing discipline, including xUnit or NUnit, mocking frameworks, and Git branching workflows\nExperience designing secure REST APIs and building ETL processes\nUnderstanding of environmental sampling data, including analytical results, chains of custody, lab EDDs, and regulatory criteria\nProven ability to gather requirements, clarify ambiguity, and anticipate stakeholder needs\nExperience developing or customizing solutions within the EQuIS ecosystem\nExperience with VB.NET or VBA, particularly for modernizing legacy tools into current .NET\nFamiliarity with Python for data processing and scripting, and exposure to ArcGIS Online/ESRI integrations\nThis job posting is for a future opportunity.
