At Smappee, we believe energy should be smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable. Our technology helps businesses and individuals monitor, manage and optimise their energy consumption while accelerating the transition towards electric mobility.
Behind every Smappee solution is embedded software that enables devices to measure, communicate and make intelligent decisions in real time. To support the continued growth of our Energy Management and EV Charging solutions, we're looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to strengthen our R&D team.
In this role, you'll help build the software that powers our next generation of products. You'll work closely with electronics engineers, software developers, product managers and QA specialists to create reliable, high-performance embedded solutions that operate at the heart of our energy and charging systems.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working close to the hardware, solving complex technical challenges and taking ownership from design through testing and validation. Whether it's developing low-level firmware, optimizing performance or bringing new functionality to life, you'll play an important role in shaping the products that drive the energy transition.
You don't need to be an expert in every technology we use from day one. What matters most is a strong embedded software foundation, a passion for engineering and the curiosity to keep learning and improving.
What will you do?
You will join our Embedded Software team and contribute to the development of the firmware and software components that power Smappee's Energy Management Systems and EV charging solutions.
More specifically, you will:
- Design and Implement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement robust embedded software solutions for EV chargers and Energy Management systems.
- Low-Level Development: Develop efficient, low-level embedded software tailored to interface with underlying hardware components and power systems.
- Architecture Modules: Create and maintain hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and runtime environment modules to ensure reliable and high-performance operation.
- Testing & Verification: Take ownership of your code quality by writing and executing your own unit tests and functional tests to validate software behavior.
- Integration & Diagnostics: Configure, integrate, and verify software modules alongside essential system diagnostics protocols.
- Documentation & QA: Produce clean, well-documented code and work closely with dedicated quality assurance teams to maximize product reliability.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices in embedded software development to enhance future product offerings.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Electronics or Computer Sciences with a genuine passion for electronics and embedded software.
- Several years of hands-on experience in developing, coding, and unit-testing in C and modern C++ languages, ideally in an Automotive/EV/Energy context.
- Proficiency with version control systems like Git, issue tracking tools such as Jira, and agile development methodologies.
- Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CICD) practices and Jenkins.
- Professional experience in firmware development for Embedded 32-bit microcontrollers is a significant advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- A keen interest in and/or prior experience with EV/Energy/Automotive systems and components.
- Effective team player with the ability to work independently when needed.
- A 'green heart’ and belief in renewable energy.
