The problems we tackle span the full stack: high-performance rendering and real-time collaboration on the front end, to distributed data systems at massive scale on the back end.\nYou will report to an Engineering Manager located in our Bellevue, WA office, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.\nYou Will:\nDesign and build full-stack features-front-end, back-end, data modeling, infrastructure, and test automation\nOwn large, ambiguous projects end-to-end-from idea to GA-including cross-team efforts spanning planning, design, execution, shipping, and operational excellence.\nLead hard front-end challenges: virtualized, high performance views that render hundreds of thousands of rows instantly, anticipating scaling issues before they arise.\nDesign complex back-end and distributed systems-designing APIs and data pipelines that handle real-time collaboration, large datasets, and high-concurrency workloads reliably.\nProactively identify and fix team wide operational and DX problems, building tooling and infrastructure that compounds across the team.\nUse AI coding tools (like Claude) across the SDLC to speed development, testing, review, and docs-validating output with strong judgment and modeling this for others.\nLead design and code reviews that raise engineering standards; mentor engineers through complex projects by teaching approach, not just answers.\nPartner with product and design from concept through launch, turning ambiguous customer needs into clear requirements and trade-offs.\nOwn work end-to-end with business-level impact: reliable, observable code, production monitoring, and iteration based on real usage and feedback.\nNavigate competing priorities and dependencies to drive projects to completion, partnering across product, design, data, and customer success.\nYou Have:\n5+ years of engineering experience in a team environment.\n3+ years of experience in service-oriented architecture, deployment systems, and cloud infrastructure.\nProficient in at least one high-level programming language, such as Ruby, Java, Go, Python, and TypeScript.\nExperience with modern client JS libraries, like React, and Redux.\nExperience in application migration patterns and tradeoff scenarios.\nYou have a knowledge of OOP and REST design principles.\nClear and objective writing and in-person communication.\nCuriosity to learn new technologies and systems.\nA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.\nLegally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis.\nCurrent US Perks & Benefits:\nEmployer subsidized medical/vision and dental coverage for full-time employees\n401k Match to help you save for your future (50% of your contribution up to the first 6% of your eligible pay)\nMonthly stipend to support your work and productivity\nFlexible Time Away Program, plus Sick Time Off\nUS employees are automatically covered under Smartsheet-sponsored life insurance, short-term, and long-term disability plans\nUS employees receive 12 paid holidays per year\nUp to 24 weeks of Parental Leave\nPersonal paid Volunteer Day to support our community\nOpportunities for professional growth and development including access to Udemy online courses\nCompany Funded Perks, including a counseling membership, local retail discounts, and your own personal Smartsheet account\nTeleworking options from any registered location in the U.S. (role specific)\nSmartsheet provides a competitive base salary range for roles that may be hired in different geographic areas we are licensed to operate our business from.
