The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials engineering and substantial experience in material testing, quality control, and quality assurance for large-scale civil engineering projects, particularly dams and hydropower developments.\nOversee material sourcing, inspection, testing, and quality control for the project.\nEnsure that construction materials comply with project specifications, relevant industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.\nConduct regular site inspections to assess the quality and suitability of materials used in construction activities.\nMonitor and coordinate material testing, including strength, durability, and other performance tests, in collaboration with laboratories and relevant stakeholders.\nReview and maintain documentation relating to material test results, certifications, approvals, and quality control records.\nLiaise with project engineers, contractors, suppliers, and testing laboratories to ensure the timely availability and quality of construction materials.\nEnsure compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety requirements related to material handling, testing, and storage.\nProvide technical advice on the suitability and performance of construction materials, particularly concrete, aggregates, cement, steel, and other materials used in dam and hydropower construction.\nSupport the project team in identifying and resolving material-related quality issues during construction.\nWith a track record of achievement in a related role, you will have gained your experience in a consultancy environment and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.\nSuitable applicants will have/be:\nTertiary qualifications or a related discipline (e.g. B.Sc/BS in Geology).\nMinimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a Material Engineer, preferably on dam, hydropower, or other large-scale infrastructure projects.\nIn-depth knowledge of construction materials, including concrete, cement, aggregates, steel, and geotechnical materials.\nExperience in material testing, quality assurance, quality control, and compliance with project specifications.\nFamiliarity with relevant construction standards, testing methods, and quality management procedures.\nStrong analytical, technical reporting, and problem-solving skills.\nSMEC is an equal opportunity employer.
