Apply Now!\nYour Opportunity\nPossesses a working knowledge of and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of preventative maintenance and other maintenance and repairs of machinery and mechanical equipment. Supervises, trains and coordinates activities for maintenance employees. Schedules maintenance work, keeps a clean work environment, and accurate records.\nResponsibilities\nDirects daily maintenance work activities of employees in assigned equipment areas and sets up any additional work maintenance schedules.\n\nProvides front line supervision for maintenance employees and maintenance contractors.\n\nFollows standard operating maintenance instructions/procedures in the performance of any and all maintenance tasks, including replacing, adjusting, installing any feed mill equipment.\n\nContinuously maintain awareness of any maintenance problems and develop strategies and procedures to correct existing problems and help eliminate any future maintenance related issues or reduce unscheduled down times due to maintenance issues.\n\nWork with the Feed Mill Manager and Shift Supervisors in development, implementation, and coordination of a plant wide preventative and predictive maintenance (PM) program to ensure maximum equipment life and minimal downtime and that it is cost effective.\n\nMaintain accurate records.\n\nOversee training of maintenance technicians and millwrights.\n\nLead and organize maintenance technicians in the completion of all tasks.\n\nMaintain an adequate, cost-effective inventory of spare parts.\n\nDevelop and communicate consistent parts replacement or repair guidelines.\n\nProvide cost estimates as necessary to the Feed Mill Manager.\n\nMonitor all repairs to ensure all warranty costs are covered.\n\nInterface with boiler, chemical and insurance representatives to ensure the integrity of water softeners, boilers and related boiler equipment.\n\nCoordinate and communicate with all departments to ensure maintenance needs are properly addressed.\n\nManage imminent maintenance projects.\n\nCoordinate and schedule annual boiler inspection.\n\nCoordinate and schedule bi-annual manlift inspection.\n\nOversee and maintain proper records for the State Department of Air Quality.\n\nCoordinate, schedule and perform yearly fire extinguisher inspection.\n\nPromote safety including housekeeping practices, tools, equipment, and facility.\n\nUtilize downtime effectively for solutions to repair/maintain equipment.\n\nAssist Feed Mill as needed regarding milling operations and procedures.\n\nResponsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Hog Production subscribes.\n\nIncumbent will be responsible for understanding and complying with company SIPS, EMS and BMS policies and procedures while performing their job duties.\n\nProvide and perform required training of the maintenance staff of all safety, environmental, procedural and equipment operation procedures.\n\nPerform all required re-assessments of procedures in LTT, confined spaces, hot work, tank integrity and any other assessments.\n\nWork with management to operate within budget on all R&M operations.\n\nReport all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.\n\nRead and understand the company’s emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.\n\nCompletes daily duties in a manner that maintains compliance and seeks out opportunities for improvement within the Smithfield local Animal Food Safety Plan.\n\nAssist in 5 year planning of major capital projects including, but not limited to capital budgeting, equipment planning and selection and coordination of service and installation of the equipment or project.\n\nAll other tasks and duties as assigned.\n\nThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.\nBachelor’s Degree from accredited four-year college or university, and 5+ years relevant maintenance experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.\n\n2+ years experience in electrical troubleshooting and repair, welding and plumbing.\n\nElectrician license helpful, but not required.\n\nAble to perform troubleshooting, repair and assembly of any feed mill equipment including electrical issues: solid-state circuitry, 110 v control circuits, lighting circuits, VFD and soft-start drives and 3 phase circuitry.\n\nAble to read and speak English in order to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.\n\nGood leadership skills.\n\nGood verbal & written communications skills required.\n\nGood organizational skills.\n\nMust be self-motivated and able to work alone and unsupervised.\n\nMust be available to be on-call when scheduled.\n\nMust be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays when scheduled.\n\nMust be able to work an average 50-hour week with average 10-hour workday, which can vary frequently.\n\nAbility to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.\n\nAbility to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.\n\nSupervisory Responsibilities\nProvides leadership and guidance to employees in the Maintenance Department.\n\nCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.\n\nResponsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.\n\nWork Environment & Physical Demands\nThe work environment characteristics & physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
