Smiths Group is a British engineering company founded in 1851 as a London watchmaker, and it has repeatedly reinvented itself, once supplying instruments for most British cars and aircraft before selling those businesses entirely. Today it operates in four areas: security screening equipment for airports and borders, seals and connectors for extreme industrial environments, non-destructive detection and inspection instruments, and specialist electrical connectors for aerospace and defence. Headquartered in London and listed there, it has been under investor pressure to break itself up on the argument that its divisions have little in common.

Every minute of every day, Smiths Detection’s threat detection and security screening technology helps to protect people and infrastructure, making the world a safer place.

Smiths Detection is a global leader in the development, manufacture and management of security and detection solutions designed to make the world a safer place. Our technology provides threat detection and screening solutions for customers in our key markets: aviation, ports and borders, defence, and urban security.

Our expertise spans 21 global offices, seven manufacturing sites and five R&D centres, with a global network of 3,000 dedicated colleagues contributing towards over 40 years at the frontline of advances in safety and security.

This results in careers built on variety and the opportunity to work on a range of state-of-the-art solutions, where you can develop your knowledge and experience every day.

  • Partner with creative and content teams to develop engaging, video-led campaigns.
  • Oversee social listening, governance, and reputation management processes.
  • Analyse channel performance and continuously optimise content effectiveness and audience growth.

Measurement & Agency Performance

  • Establish KPIs and performance frameworks across communications activities.
  • Monitor media coverage, sentiment, share of voice, visibility, and engagement metrics.
  • Hold external agencies and partners accountable for performance and delivery.
  • Present actionable insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
