Listed on the London Stock Exchange, Smiths employs approximately 16,000 colleagues in over 50 countries.\n BASIC FUNCTION:\nLead Right First-Time engineering activities by troubleshooting non-conforming seal designs. Lead projects to develop improvements to existing products. This is an independent role with great latitude to affect the outcome of critical, time-sensitive projects.\nPRIMARY DUTIES (RFT):\nProvide technical input and guidance to projects with respect to the design, performance, procurement, manufacturing, and testing of Dry Gas Sealing products for the turbomachinery equipment.\nPerform seal calculations (including leakage calculations, heat generation, balance temp, flow rates etc.)\nAdvanced use of CSTEDY & ANSYS for design analysis. Ability to understand and interpret results correctly to explain testing anomalies. \nUse 2D and 3D CAD software (Solid Edge).\nAnalyse and interpret large amounts of test data to troubleshoot failed seal tests.\nMaintain build logs tracking all relevant variables for the specific seal problem (requires expert knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and testing of gas seals).\nAdvise and support work instructions for Operations (requires expert knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and testing of gas seals) .\nEvaluate the cosmetic appearance of seals, often in front of customers.\nManage customers in difficult testing and inspection situations. \nLead technical root cause analyses, including analysis of problems / recommendation & implementation of appropriate solutions, meeting with and presenting to customers to resolve satisfactorily and maintain a good customer relationship / confidence in John Crane products with necessary commercial awareness.\nPrepare customer-facing correspondence and technical engineering reports in connection with the projects.\nMaintain good working relationship and respect with Operations counterparts.\nRaise / process / approve Engineering Change Notice (ECN) requests, approve/reject parts not to drawing specification (handle non-conformances).\nUse engineering judgment and experience to resolve difficult technical problems.\nDevelop and implement clear plans for enhancements to existing products via PAL projects.\nManage and monitor the testing of mechanical seal designs, whether as part of a PAL project or for customer-specific tests.\nCreate & distribute technical bulletins, articles, or papers dealing with product design.\nTrain more junior engineers in RCAs, manufacturing, assembly, testing, design, CStedy, and FEA.\nAbove engineering grade outline also implies full knowledge of / capability to perform relevant tasks in lower grade (i.e. ME1, ME2, ME3).\n Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred).\nAt least 5 years’ relevant experience with rotating equipment, preferably turbomachinery equipment.\nBroad knowledge of engineering sciences, materials, and modern manufacturing processes.\nAbility to review 2D & 3D CAD drawings.\nProject management skills.\nEffective written and oral communication skills.\n With colleagues stretching across the globe, we are proud of our diversity.
