As a Mechanical Engineer, you will either be under direct supervision performs a variety of engineering and design tasks requiring application of standard techniques and procedures & using engineering judgement and responsibilities to resolve customer inquiries. This role will also offer guidance and support to other engineers within the team.\nPRIMARY DUTIES (Applications):\nReview & processing of Application Requests\nFollowing standard techniques and procedures, select / apply standard or special products to meet customers' needs, including seals, fluid control products, couplings, filters, bearings\nGeneration of engineering proposals / specifications for standard or special products, including determining cost-effective materials for production\nAdvanced Seal calculations (including leakage calculations, heat generation, balance temp, flow rates etc.)\nAdvanced use of CSTEDY & similar tools for in-depth design analysis, including approval of others’ basic CSTEDY reports [ME3]\nFluid control calculations as required\nAdvanced Couplings calculations as required\nOther engineering calculations as required\nProvide applications direction and approval to CAD personnel to complete layout (GA) and detail drawings\nPrepare material and other relevant product specifications for internal and external use\nIn-depth field troubleshooting, including analysis of problems / recommendation & implementation of appropriate solutions, lead meetings with customers in plant or at customer’s site to resolve satisfactorily\nDetailed failure analysis activities, including full investigation / reporting / resolution with customer with necessary commercial awareness [ME3]\nApprove / reject purchase or manufacture of fabricated parts not to drawing specification ('quality clinics')\nCreate / assist in the creation of application software, analysis programs or selection criteria, for new or existing products \nPRIMARY DUTIES (Product Development):\nDevelop and implement clear plans for new products and enhancments in co-operation with PLM where appropriate \nProject manage development programmes to plan and budget \nSupport the transition of a product from development into production \nPerform and monitor the testing of mechanical seal designs, whether as part of product development or for customer-specific tests \nBuild prototype models for test and evaluation\nAssist Marketing with design, performance, and application criteria on existing designs or product enhancements\nPRIMARY DUTIES (other):\nDetailed technical presentations to customers in order to support sales\nDeliver detailed technical training externally to customers as required \nManage and report personal workload, forecast job lead-times to meet customer and departmental objectives\nRaise / process / approve Engineering Change Notice (GCN) requests\nCreate new or update existing standards to control design criteria, application of products, and procedures \nCreate & distribute technical bulletins, articles, or papers dealing with product, application, or system design \nMaintain engineering databases\nProvide technical support via the Engineering Help Desk, if appropriate / as required\nAdditional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon local business / departmental needs\nEducation: typically an accredited B Eng degree (UK) or overseas equivalent; additional qualifications an advantage; engineer may be pursuing local ‘chartered’ status (e.g. C Eng in UK, overseas equivalent)\nExperience: typically at least 5 years’ relevant experience in an application or development role, with extensive relevant product / equipment / industry knowledge.\n With colleagues stretching across the globe, we are proud of our diversity.
