We are active in large parts of Africa, Belgium & Luxembourg, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and in US.\nJob Title: Field Service Engineer\nLocation: Field-Based - Warrington and surrounding areas\nContract: Full Time, Permanent\nAbout the Role\nWe are looking for a Field Service Engineer to join our team, supporting customers across Warrington and the surrounding areas.\nThe focus of this role is to deliver a first-class service to both internal and external customers while maintaining and repairing Volvo Construction Equipment and associated machinery. You'll be responsible for identifying customer needs, maximising machine uptime and promoting SMT GB's aftermarket products and services where appropriate.\nWhat You'll Be Doing\nService, maintain and repair Volvo Construction Equipment and associated machinery.\nDiagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using technical expertise and diagnostic equipment.\nIdentify additional service and repair opportunities and discuss these with customers and internal teams.\nCarry out all work in line with quotations and time guides, highlighting where additional work may be required.\nInstall software updates and system enhancements when released.\nComplete electronic job cards, reports and timesheets accurately and in real time.\nOrder and manage parts required for repairs and return parts promptly upon job completion.\nSupport call-out and overtime requirements where required.\nAttend product and systems training to maintain technical competence and product knowledge.\nEnsure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company and manufacturer standards.\nAbout You\nTo be successful in this role, you'll bring strong technical capability, a proactive attitude and a customer-focused approach. You'll be someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality work, enjoys problem-solving and can work independently while representing SMT GB professionally on customer sites.\nYou will have:\nA formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Mechanics or a related discipline (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent).\nProven experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs or similar equipment.\nStrong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulics and electrical systems.\nThe ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and service information.\nExperience using diagnostic tools and electronic service systems.\nExcellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to fault diagnosis.\nGood communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues.\nStrong IT skills and confidence using digital reporting systems and mobile technology.\nA commercially aware mindset with a focus on delivering excellent customer service and identifying opportunities to support customers further.\nThe ability to manage your own workload effectively, prioritising jobs and responding to changing customer requirements.\nA commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.\nHigh levels of attention to detail and a professional approach to work.\nA positive, flexible attitude and willingness to participate in overtime and call-out activities when required.\nA full UK driving licence.\nDesirable\nWelding and fabrication experience.\nPrevious experience working with Volvo Construction Equipment or similar heavy plant machinery.\nExperience working in a field-based service environment.\nFamiliarity with telematics systems and modern machine technology.\nRelevant health and safety qualifications such as IOSH Working Safely.\nLGV/HGV, plant operator or lifting-related qualifications.\nWhat We Offer\nAlongside a competitive salary and company van, you'll benefit from:\nHealth Cash Plan, 24/7 GP access and physiotherapy support.\nEnhanced sick pay, maternity, paternity and adoption leave.\nPension with up to 5% employer contributions.\nCycle to Work scheme and salary sacrifice car leasing options.\nEmployee discounts platform.\nPaid volunteering day, refer-a-friend bonus and long service awards.\nAccess to employee-led initiatives, recognition programmes and wellbeing support.\nApply Now\nWe are interviewing on an ongoing basis and reserve the right to close this vacancy once a suitable candidate has been identified.
