about\nIn this role, you lead and develop software engineering teams responsible for the technical foundations and shared capabilities that power Miles Enterprise.\nThese teams work across a broad range of platform capabilities, including:\nShared services\n\nCalculation engines\n\nDocument generation\n\nDecision support and AI\n\nIdentity and access management\n\nIntegration frameworks\n\nConfiguration management tooling\n\nData streaming\n\nFoundational application frameworks\n\nYour focus is to ensure these capabilities remain robust, performant and extensible, while enabling Product teams and external developers to build and integrate efficiently.\nYou combine people leadership, delivery ownership and technical direction, working closely with Product Managers, Architects and other Engineering leaders to shape the future of the Miles platform.\nOur core backend environment is primarily Java-based, with technologies such as Quarkus, REST APIs and event-driven architectures, so strong technical credibility in modern backend and platform engineering is important.\nYou will also play an important role in Sofico’s broader move toward a more product-first and AI-enabled way of working.\n\nYour responsibilities\nLead and grow strong engineering teams\nBuild, organise and mentor high-performing engineering teams that take ownership of the core platform components they develop and maintain.\nSupport engineers in their professional development through regular feedback, coaching and clear expectations.\nDrive platform delivery\nEnsure timely and predictable delivery while maintaining high standards for product quality, reliability and bug-resolution SLAs.\nBalance strategic platform investments with short- and medium-term delivery commitments.\nShape the platform strategy\nCollaborate with Product Management, Architecture and senior leadership to define the technical direction of our shared platform capabilities.\nHelp ensure architectural decisions support both current product needs and the long-term evolution of Miles.\nEnable Product teams\nBuild platforms and frameworks that allow Product teams to deliver customer value faster and with greater autonomy.\nPromote intuitive APIs, reusable services and scalable engineering patterns that reduce unnecessary complexity for internal and external developers.\nImprove engineering effectiveness\nDefine and monitor meaningful engineering metrics and work with our tooling and enablement teams to improve developer productivity.\nDrive continuous improvement across areas such as:\nLead time\n\nDelivery predictability\n\nReliability\n\nQuality\n\nCI/CD\n\nDeveloper experience\n\nStrengthen engineering practices\nPromote modern software engineering practices, automation, cloud-native design and scalable architecture.\nContribute to the maturation and standardisation of cross-functional development processes across the Product organisation.\n\nEnable AI-assisted engineering\nSofico is actively investing in AI across the Product and Software Development Lifecycles.\nHelp teams use tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and AI agents across activities such as analysis, coding, testing, documentation and code review.\nEnsure AI is introduced pragmatically, with engineers remaining accountable for quality and final decisions.\n\nCollaborate across the organisation\nPartner closely with:\nProduct Managers\n\nSoftware Architects\n\nEngineering leaders\n\nProduct teams\n\nCustomer-facing teams\n\nSenior management\n\nYou will also act as a trusted escalation point when platform, delivery or technical issues require broader alignment.\n\nYour skills and interests\nYou are a credible engineering leader who combines strong people leadership with a solid understanding of enterprise software architecture.\nYou are comfortable discussing technical details with engineers and architects, but can equally communicate priorities, trade-offs and risks with Product leaders, customers and senior stakeholders.\nYou care about:\nBuilding high-performing and accountable engineering teams\n\nCreating reusable software engineering leadership\n\nA strong track record of leading engineering teams across multiple platform or technical areas\n\nStrong software engineering foundations, ideally with Java and modern enterprise backend development\n\nExperience with technologies such as Quarkus, REST APIs and event-driven architectures is a strong advantage\n\nExperience with areas such as shared services, integration frameworks, platform engineering, data, AI or developer platforms\n\nStrong understanding of enterprise software architecture\n\nExperience with cloud-native systems and distributed architectures\n\nGood understanding of modern DevOps and CI/CD practices\n\nExperience balancing long-term platform investments with product and delivery commitments\n\nExperience working closely with Product Management and Architecture\n\nStrong stakeholder-management and communication skills\n\nA track record of coaching and developing engineers\n\nExperience with, or genuine interest in,
