Our core purpose is to help organizations improve software engineering capabilities and develop or acquire the right software, defect free, within budget and on time, every time.\nThe CERT Division of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is seeking applicants for an Associate AI/ML Communications Research Engineer. In this role, a successful candidate will employ a multi-discipline approach to investigate, design, and validate AI/ML models and systems with application to wireless communications systems and protocols. This position requires knowledge of the design, training, and test of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Temporal Neural Networks (TNN). This position requires knowledge of signal processing methods and techniques applied to the physical layer of wireless communications devices with emphasis on detection, modulation, and spreading. This position requires strong professional and team environment skills.\nThe SEI is a federally funded research and development center at Carnegie Mellon University.\nWhat you’ll do:\n· Design, train, and test ANNs and TNNs using the latest tools and methods.\nAnalyze and assess performance of radio frequency (RF) receivers.\nResearch novel approaches to sensing the RF channel and optimizing the communications link.\nProgram in C/C++ in an embedded Linux environment.\nPerform system analysis in MATLAB and Python.\nDevelop logic in Verilog and SystemVerilog for System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms.\nDesign and maintain physical and virtual test environments.\nAutomate data collection and testing processes.\nWho you are:\nYou have an MS in Electrical Engineering or related field, with at least one year of relevant experience. \nYou have a deep interest in AI / ML and the application to RF systems and protocols.\nYou have practical experience with design and evaluation of AI and ML systems.\nYou have penchant for intellectual curiosity, enjoy working on a small team of engineers, and have a desire to make an impact beyond your organization.\nYou are hands and enjoy creating and testing prototypes.\nYou have experience with laboratory test equipment.\nYou have strong teamwork skills especially with working in interdisciplinary teams with professionals from other fields in a multi-tasking environment.\nYou have superb communication skills (oral and written), particularly regarding technical communications with non-experts\nYou have a strong desire to learn and take on dynamic new challenges applying your existing skills and developing new skills\nYou are able to:\nTravel to various locations to support the SEI’s overall mission.
