This role provides strategic direction, technical expertise, and engineering oversight to ensure successful delivery of BESS solutions that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.This role is fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.\nJob Description:\n*This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned\nPosition Responsibilities and Duties:\nServe as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for BESS engineering scopes, providing guidance and technical direction to project teams\n\nLead and manage the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.\n\nReview feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses to recommend optimal BESS configurations and future augmentation provisions.\n\nServe as a senior technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes on assigned projects.\n\nManage Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to ensure scope clarity and timely delivery.\n\nCoordinate with fire protection engineers and local fire departments/ AHJ’s.\n\nDevelop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components to support procurement activities.\n\nProvide technical oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews.\n\nCollaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.\n\nOversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability.\n\nProvide engineering support during construction, including field issue resolution, design clarifications, and minor redesigns.\n\nProvide engineering support for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.\n\nMentor junior engineers and project teams, promoting innovation and engineering excellence.\n\nStay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.\n\nSupport business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.\n\nRepresent SOLV Engineering in customer and client meetings.\n\nParticipate in regular team meetings/ calls.\n\nTravel as required to support project execution.\n\nComplete other responsibilities as assigned.\n\nMinimum Skills or Experience Requirements:\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.\n\n5+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.\n\nExpertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems), and grid interconnection equipment.\n\nExpert knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.\n\nProficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD, etc.) and simulation tools.\n\nTechnical subject matter expert of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards).\n\nExtensive experience with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).\n\nStrong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).\n\nThorough knowledge of communication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).\n\nProject management experience including budgeting, scheduling, and risk managment.\n\nKnowledge of EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners\n\nExcellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and resources.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license preferred.\n\nAbility to work independently, manage multiple priorities, adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.\n\nCommitment to safety, quality, and sustainability.\n\nApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.\nSOLV Energy Is an Equal Opportunity Employer\nAt SOLV Energy we celebrate the power of our differences.
