This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants their work to keep a global learning platform reliable, secure, and cost-efficient.\n\nYou'll design, operate, and improve our cloud environment (primarily AWS, with some GCP) across infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, security, reliability, and cost. You'll work with a high degree of autonomy and make sound calls without waiting for direction.\n\nOur stack: AWS (primary) and GCP · Pulumi/Terraform · GitLab CI · Python/Bash for automation.\n\nBefore You Apply\n\nThis role carries real ownership of production systems learners depend on. You'll handle ambiguity, balance competing priorities, and weigh reliability, security, and cost in your decisions. Some of the near-term work is foundational - tightening how we manage access, credentials, and deployments. We look for engineers who stay composed under pressure, take full accountability, and hold a high bar without close supervision.\n\nIf you want a role where infrastructure decisions have visible impact and your work directly supports a mission that matters, we'd love to hear from you.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nInfrastructure & IaC\n\nDesign, build, and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS (and GCP where needed) using Pulumi/Terraform.\n\nKeep infrastructure available, performant, and scalable as the platform grows.\n\nCI/CD & Deployments\n\nBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) for fast, safe, repeatable deployments.\n\nManage releases, rollbacks, and deployment safety to minimize disruption.\n\nSecurity, Reliability & Monitoring\n\nApply least-privilege access, sensible network configuration, and good secrets management.\n\nRun monitoring, logging, and incident response; keep downtime low and detection useful.\n\nMaintain backups and a workable disaster-recovery plan.\n\nCost & Collaboration\n\nKeep cloud spend visible and efficient with budgets and usage controls.\n\nWork with the Product & Technology team so infrastructure supports what's being built, and keep documentation and operational standards up to date.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\n\n3+ years in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, SRE, or platform engineering.\n\nHands-on experience with AWS (and GCP experience a plus).\n\nProficiency with Pulumi/Terraform and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI or equivalent).\n\nSolid cloud-security fundamentals: IAM, least-privilege, networking, and secrets management.\n\nExperience with monitoring, logging, and incident response.\n\nScripting for automation (Python or Bash).\n\nPragmatic judgment about reliability vs. cost, with the ability to work independently and own outcomes.\n\nBonus Points If You Have\n\nContainerized workloads (Cloud Run, ECS) and basic orchestration.\n\nExperience moving from static credentials to federated identity (Workload Identity Federation, OIDC).\n\nExposure to data-platform infrastructure (BigQuery, Airflow).\n\nA habit of using AI tools to speed up infrastructure and automation work.\n\nExperience in mission-driven or non-profit organizations.\n\nWhy Join Us?\n\nYou'll be joining a team with a bold mission to transform education.
