We strive for collaboration, which is why we offer a work environment where our employees thrive and develop long-lasting careers.\nOur business, your impact, our opportunity:\nAs an AVP, Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting both renewal and new business Environmental Pollution and Casualty accounts within your territory. You will build and manage partnerships with agents, brokers, and other distribution partners, leveraging strategic thinking to develop and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities that supports profitable growth in Sompo’s Environmental business. You will underwrite within your authority level and established guidelines while partnering across functions to deliver strong portfolio performance.\nWhat you'll be doing:\nMeet stated financial objectives for growth and profitability for the Environmental elements of the Specialty portfolio.\n\nCreate and maintain relationships to showcase Sompo’s products and capabilities beyond underwriting, including market trends, audits, and claims; represent Sompo through on-site visits, industry conferences, and other engagements.\n\nReview and resolve premium audit issues.\n\nUtilize underwriting standards, practices, and tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.\n\nReview applicable laws and regulations, including cancellation and non-renewal protocols, in assigned locations.\n\nPerform and/or oversee risk analysis (exposure, aggregation, scenario testing, and profitability) using internal models and market data.\n\nSupport internal and external audits; identify control gaps and drive remediation actions where needed.\n\nPartner with Claims, Actuarial, Cat/Exposure Management, Finance, and Operations to support underwriting outcomes and portfolio health.\n\nWhat you’ll bring:\n7+ years of casualty or environmental underwriting experience.\n\nFamiliarity with required forms and coverages.\n\nKnowledge of relevant laws associated with US Environmental underwriting coverages.\n\nExperience underwriting non-admitted lines of coverage, and working with wholesale and retail brokers/agents\n\nAbility to travel as needed.\n\nDemonstrates an understanding and ability to effectively engage in the negotiation process.\n\nAdept at risk selection, exposure evaluation and ability to rate, quote, and sell admitted and non-admitted solutions.\n\nExcellent organizational skills.\n\nVery strong analytical, oral and written communication skills required.\n\nAbility to meet tight deadlines is essential.\n\nStrong customer service with a professional attitude and approach needed.\n\nAbility to interact and communicate with various levels of the organization to cross-sell or address processing requirements.\n\nDemonstrate significant contribution to underwriting profit.\n\nProficient in associated computer programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.\n\nSalary Range: $140,000.00 - 185,000.00 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.\nAt Sompo, we recognize that the talent, skills, and commitment of our employees drive our success.
