In this critical role, you will lead the execution and validation of our reserving systems and data outputs, ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of our reserve calculations. You will play a key role in supporting an insightful Reserving analysis process that brings value to the wider business.\nLocation: This position will be based out of our London or New York office. We strive for collaboration which is why we offer a work environment where our employees thrive and develop long lasting careers.\nOur business, your impact, our opportunity:\nWhat you’ll be doing:\nReserving Technical Function\nContribute to enhancing the design, development, and maintenance of our in-house Sompo Reserving Platform reserving system and tools.\nExecute data controls and validation processes.\nCollaborate with actuaries to maintain, enhance, and implement robust reserving methodologies within SRP workbook.\nQuarterly Technical Reserving Process and Off Quarter Projects\nWork within the Reserving Technical team to manage and compile the data sets used in the reserving process.\nEnsure that data queries and issues are duly recorded, effectively resolved, and clearly communicated.\nCarry out and enhance where appropriate quarterly reserving data controls and validation processes.\nWork with the Reserving Function to refine reserving segmentations and update reserving parameters as required.\nExecute and reconcile GLSU topsides in collaboration with the Finance Department.\nSustain and optimize the central reconciliation process for SRP for both SQL and PowerBI interface, while actively seeking opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.\nMaintain and produce quarterly Solvency II report for UK regulatory reporting.\nResQ SME supporting ACE teams which includes quarterly roll-forwards and checks, enhancing efficiency, hosting ResQ working party.\nProduce a range of core and regulatory reports to support the reserving process.\nCommunication & Stakeholder Management\nLiaise with Technical Accounting and IT to investigate and resolve observed anomalies related to the SRP data.\nEffectively communicate progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nDevelop relationships within the Actuarial function and beyond the Actuarial function with Risk, Claims, Finance, Ceded Reinsurance and Financial Planning & Analysis and leverage these relationships to enhance an understanding of Sompo International’s business and processes.\nAssist with internal and external audits.\nWhat you’ll bring:\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.\nMinimum of 3 years of relevant experience in P&C insurance reserving, with a strong focus on data management and system development.\nStrong programming skill in SQL.\nBe approachable to a range of stakeholders and flexible to work under time pressure to business needs, particularly around quarter end close deadlines.\nProven experience with ETL, data warehousing, version control, and visualization tools (e.g. Power BI).\nExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and debug complex SQL stored procedures.\nHighly organised with the ability to think critically and independently.\nProficiency in actuarial reserving software and tools.\nStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nAbility and willingness to learn new technologies, coding languages etc. as required by the evolution of the reserve platform.\nAt Sompo, we recognize that the talent, skills, and commitment of our employees drive our success.
