This is a high-impact leadership role where you will define quality strategy, drive automation and test infrastructure investments, and partner closely with Product Management, Development, Release Engineering, DevOps, and Support teams to ensure every release meets high standards of reliability, security, and customer trust.\nYou will be responsible not just for test execution, but for shaping how quality is built into the product lifecycle — from early design reviews and threat modelling to release readiness and post-release learning.\nKey Responsibilities\nQuality Strategy & Release Ownership\nDefine and continuously improve the QA strategy for SonicOS across major releases, patches, and hotfixes\nEstablish quality gates, entry/exit criteria, and clear release readiness standards\nDrive risk-based testing and shift-left practices to catch issues early\nOwn go/no-go decisions for releases from a quality standpoint\nFirewall Domain & Technical Leadership\nProvide strong technical leadership across firewall features such as:\nStateful firewall, NAT, VPN (IPSec/SSL), routing, HA\nSecurity services like IPS, DPI-SSL, Gateway AV, App Control, Web Filtering\nReview PRDs, design documents, and architecture proposals with a quality & security mindset\nDefine comprehensive test strategies covering:\nFunctional correctness and complex E2E customer workflows\nPerformance, scale, and stress (throughput, sessions, DPI impact)\nHA failover, upgrades/downgrades, config migrations, and long-run stability\nChampion security and negative testing to validate abuse cases and threat scenarios\nAutomation, CI/CD & Test Infrastructure\nDefine the long-term automation vision (UI, API, CLI, E2E) and measurable coverage goals\nPartner with automation leads to build scalable, reliable frameworks integrated into CI/CD\nDrive stability and reliability of automated test suites (reduce flakiness, improve signal)\nOwn strategy for testbeds spanning hardware appliances, virtual firewalls, and cloud deployments\nWork with infra teams to ensure availability, capacity planning, and reliability of test environments\nExecution Excellence & Metrics\nOwn and track key quality metrics: defect leakage, escape rate, regression effectiveness, automation ROI, flakiness trends\nLead regular release readiness and quality reviews with senior stakeholders\nDrive deep root cause analysis for production escapes and systemic quality gaps\nConvert learnings from field issues into preventive quality improvements\nPeople Leadership & Stakeholder Influence\nBuild, mentor, and retain a strong leadership bench of QA managers, leads, and senior engineers\nSet clear expectations, career paths, and technical growth plans for the QA organization\nInfluence engineering leadership and PMs to prioritize quality, reliability, and customer impact\nRepresent QA in leadership forums, customer escalations, and cross-functional reviews\nRequired Skills & Experience\n10+ years of total technical experience, including at least 2+ years in a management or leadership role\nStrong background in testing firewall / network security products or similar system software\nDeep understanding of networking and security fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, NAT, VPN, HA, IPS/DPI concepts, authentication mechanisms)\nExperience owning quality for complex, large-scale system software releases\nProven leadership experience managing and scaling QA teams across geographies\nStrong exposure to automation strategy and CI/CD-driven quality practices\nExcellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior technical stakeholders\nGood to Have\nPrior experience with SonicOS or comparable firewall OS platforms\nExposure to security compliance programs (FIPS, Common Criteria, SOC2)\nExperience testing in hybrid environments (hardware + virtual + cloud)\nExperience handling customer escalations and field issue RCA\nWhat Success Looks Like\nPredictable, high-quality SonicOS releases with reduced Sev1/Sev2 customer issues\nMeasurable improvement in automation coverage and test effectiveness\nFaster feedback cycles for Dev and PM through shift-left and CI/CD integration\nStrong QA leadership bench and high team engagement\nImproved customer trust and reduced critical escalations\n\nSonicWall is an equal opportunity employer. \nWe are committed to creating a diverse environment and are an equal opportunity employer.
