In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with teams across PlayStation to deliver a scalable and reliable data platform that drives a data-first culture and outlook.\nAs a Data Engineer II, you will develop and maintain server-side applications for shaping, managing, and transforming data on a large geographically distributed infrastructure for PlayStation. Your work will include developing JVM based applications using Kotlin, Scala, or Java, Flink jobs, and APIs to provide real time data and insights across the Cloud Streaming ecosystem to ensure seamless data flow throughout our data pipeline. You will also work closely with our Business Intelligence team to translate product requirements to usable insights that fuel our business decisions. You are self-motivated and thrive in a distributed team environment - comfortable taking initiative, handling your own work, and collaborating effectively across time zones and communication channels, embodying our one team mantra!\nResponsibilities\nDesign and implement middleware and backend systems capable of handling high throughput and load\nDevelop and maintain stream processing jobs using Flink (stateful / stateless), and implement scalable ETL jobs that enable our partners and customers to glean intelligent insight\nOptimize performance, reliability, and monitoring of the data pipeline stack\nSupport migration efforts of our on-premises Kafka to new cloud technologies\nPerform in-depth analysis of functional or business requirements\nContribute to architectural decisions for PlayStation’s cloud streaming data pipeline\nLiaise with Business Intelligence and product domain teams to help turn data into information, and information into business value\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience\n3+ years of experience in software development and backend engineering developing and maintaining high throughput and concurrent systems with high availability and fault tolerance\nProficient in JVM Languages (Kotlin, Scala, Java) and Python\nExperience with Apache Kafka, Flink, Spark, and SQL\nKnowledge of software paradigms like functional programming, object oriented programming, TDD\nKnowledge of web technologies including REST, JSON, gRPC, and WebSockets\nExpertise on data structures (JSON, Avro, Protobuf) as well as unstructured and semi-structured data\nExperience with ETL, stream processing, real-time pipelines, and batch processing\nFamiliarity with software development tools and processes like Git and CI/CD\nTrack record monitoring and analyzing system performance, isolating issues or bottlenecks that could impact reliability, performance and scalability\nSelf-motivated, strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with geographically remote teams\nExperience with Amazon Web Services at enterprise scale including, but not limited to, OpenSearch, MSK, and EKS is a plus \nExperience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud deployment technologies is a plus\nAt SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.\nPlease note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. \nIn addition, this role is eligiblefor SIE’s top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and coveted employee discounts for Sony products.
