This leadership role is critical to ensuring asset reliability, operational readiness, and safe production while building a high-performing maintenance culture aligned with South32's values and standards. This role is based at the Hermosa Project Site, near Patagonia, Arizona.\nOther key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:\nHealth, Safety & Environment\nProvide visible safety leadership across all electrical, instrumentation, and automation maintenance activities.\nEnsure compliance with South32 HSE standards, electrical safety requirements, isolation and permit systems, and statutory obligations.\nEnsure material risk critical controls related to electrical energy, automation systems, and control equipment that are implemented, verified, and effective.\nLead incident investigations and corrective actions related to E&I systems and automation failures.\nElectrical & Instrumentation Maintenance Execution\nLead the execution of electrical and instrumentation maintenance for fixed plant, infrastructure, and mobile equipment.\nEnsure planned and unplanned work is executed safely, efficiently, and to the required technical standards.\nMaintain asset availability and reliability through effective defect management, fault response, and maintenance execution.\nEnsure effective coordination between mobile fleet and fixed plant E&I activities.\nMobile Fleet Electrical Systems\nOwn maintenance execution for mobile fleet electrical, electronic, and onboard control systems.\nEnsure effective maintenance of fleet automation, onboard diagnostics, communication systems, and safety critical controls.\nPartner with OEMs and Maintenance Engineering to resolve repeat electrical and automation failures.\nSupport commissioning, ramp up, and lifecycle management of mobile fleet electrical systems.\nPlant Automation & Control Systems\nLead maintenance execution for plant automation, control systems, PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, and field devices.\nEnsure control system availability, integrity, and performance to support safe and stable operations.\nSupport commissioning, testing, and handover of automation systems for new or modified plant.\nCoordinate with IT/OT and Maintenance Engineering to ensure cyber, system, and configuration integrity.\nPlanning, Coordination & Performance\nWork closely with Planning & Scheduling to develop executable work plans and maintenance schedules.\nManage maintenance backlog, schedule compliance, and resource utilization within the E&I function.\nMonitor and manage performance against agreed KPIs including safety, availability, reliability, and cost.\nEnsure effective integration with operations to minimize production impacts.\nPeople & Capability\nLead, coach, and develop E&I supervisors, trades, and technicians.\nEnsure appropriate competency, authorizations, and training are in place for electrical, instrumentation, and automation work.\nFoster a disciplined, inclusive, and improvement focused culture aligned with South32 values.\nABOUT YOU\nElectrical or Instrumentation Trade Qualification.\n\nElectrical License or equivalent statutory qualification.\n\n8+ years of experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations.\n\n3+ years of experience in a supervisory, superintendent, or equivalent E&I leadership role.\n\nExtensive experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance within mining, processing, or heavy industrial environments \nStrong knowledge of mobile fleet electrical systems and onboard automation \nDemonstrated experience maintaining plant automation, PLC, SCADA, and instrumentation systems \nExperience supporting commissioning and operational readiness activities \nWorking knowledge of maintenance management systems (e.g. SAP PM) \nStrong contractor management and stakeholder engagement capability\nAdditional automation or control system training preferred\nSouth32 is committed to building and maintaining an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we operate.
