It is expected that the candidate can travel to other corporate facilities, when needed.**\nJOB SUMMARY:\nSouthern Company is seeking an intellectually curious and collaborative professional to lead and support assurance and advisory engagements across major capital projects. The role evaluates project governance, risk, controls, and performance and translates complex project information into practical insights for business unit leadership and stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings experience in project controls, project management, construction, engineering, or risk advisory and excels at building alignment across disciplines and developing trusted relationships. Success in this role requires the ability to understand the business impact of risk, exercise sound judgment, and develop actionable recommendations that support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.\nJOB DESCRIPTION:\nThe Capital Projects Risk & Assurance Project Manager will lead and coordinate risk-based assurance and advisory engagements across a portfolio of high-value infrastructure and energy projects. The role independently evaluates project management practices associated with cost and schedule controls, change management, contract administration, compliance, and risk management. Operating in a collaborative, matrixed environment, this individual will coordinate engagement activities from planning through reporting, collaborate with team members and subject-matter experts, and facilitate productive discussions with stakeholders. The role will partner closely with the project teams responsible for executing the work, along with shared services and senior leaders, to understand business objectives, assess the significance of risks, and communicate practical insights while maintaining an independent and objective perspective. Success requires initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to influence without formal authority, clarify responsibilities, and contribute to strong team outcomes.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nBuild trusted, collaborative relationships with project teams, business partners, and leaders across Southern Company and its subsidiaries.\n\nPlan and perform risk-based assurance and advisory engagements related to capital projects, including evaluating compliance with internal policies, procedures, and applicable external requirements.\n\nEvaluate project management and project controls practices related to cost, schedule, change, contract administration, governance, and performance reporting.\n\nApply intellectual curiosity and sound judgment to identify emerging risks, investigate underlying causes, and assess potential business, financial, operational, and strategic impacts.\n\nTranslate complex project information and data into clear, practical insights for project stakeholders, senior management, and the Audit Committee.\n\nDevelop practical, risk-based recommendations informed by stakeholder perspectives that address root causes and enable management to pursue sustainable improvement.\n\nCoordinate assigned engagements, priorities, and deliverables across team members and subject-matter experts, maintaining clear communication, timely completion of engagement activities, and accountability for assigned responsibilities.\n\nLead through influence by facilitating team planning, encouraging knowledge sharing, and resolving issues collaboratively.\n\nStay informed about leading practices, emerging technologies, and industry trends in project delivery, project controls, risk management, and assurance.\n\nOccasionally support departmental assignments outside the primary capital-project portfolio, including special investigations, enterprise risk assessments, and other advisory work.\n\nPerform work in accordance with GIAS and applicable internal audit procedures.\n\nJOB QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:\nEDUCATION\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required.\n\nProject Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.\n\nEXPERIENCE:\nAt least 5 years of relevant experience in capital project delivery, project controls, project management, engineering, construction, risk advisory, or a related discipline, including experience coordinating complex workstreams or engagements.
