Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.\nENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER, COMPLIANCE/AIR\nThis role will work with the Vandenberg EHS lead to run the site’s environmental programs for Falcon launch and processing at Vandenberg Space Force Base. The engineer will work in a cross functional environment to maintain various monitoring programs, as well as provide technical expertise on design reviews and operational plans. The ideal candidate is highly skilled with both environmental and occupational safety fields and works well in a fast-paced environment.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nMaintain and improve environmental programs at SpaceX’s Vandenberg, CA location.\nMaintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by EPA, RCRA, DOT, CUPA, RWQCB, SBCAPCD, and other applicable California and federal regulatory policies.\nUse continuous inventory outputs to prepare, quality-check, and submit Tier II and TRI filings on schedule; archive calculations and submission packages.\nMaintain the Hazardous Materials Management Plan (HMMP/HMBP), CUPA hazardous-materials inventories, and CERS / Tier II business-plan inputs.\nCoordinate and manage contractors for permitting and environmental testing. Review and maintain reports and other relevant records from assessments and permitting activities.\nAssist in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment, and new programs to meet regulatory and permitting requirements.\nDevelop and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and county regulators.\nDevelop and maintain positive and close working relationships with engineering teams across the site.\nWork with process owners on equipment/process buy-off and high-hazard chemical operations as they affect air, waste, or HMMP; coordinate source tests and field work with consultants.\nSupport NEPA documentation, biological monitoring duties, and landing/marine debris mitigation requirements.\nPerform internal audits and inspections of all environmental programs and recordkeeping; drive corrective actions with operations, facilities, and launch stakeholders.\nSupport the EHS team on safety related initiatives and programs as needed.\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:\nBachelor’s degree.\n3+ years of professional experience operating or building environmental compliance programs in an industrial, aerospace, DoD, or manufacturing setting.\nPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science/management, chemical engineering, or related field.\n5+ years in California environmental compliance, preferably at an aerospace, launch, or federal facility, owning environmental programs.\nExperience with utilizing AI for process optimization and automation of recordkeeping tasks.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills. Experience handling highly technical data and technical data interpretation.\nTrack record of successful analysis, interpretation, and application of rules and regulations towards practical solutions.\nAble to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, federal, state and county agencies. Ability to handle many projects at once, prioritize work, and work efficiently.\nHighly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work.\nCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:\nPay Range:\nLevel 1: $95,000.00 - $125,000.00\nLevel 2: $110,000.00 - $150,000.00\nYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.\nBase salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
