Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.\nFIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST (FACILITIES INFRASTRUCTURE)\nThe Fire Protection Specialist designs, maintains, inspects, commissions, and troubleshoots fire and life safety systems across assigned sites. This role combines in-house fire protection design with hands-on field work: inspection, testing, maintenance, contractor oversight, and commissioning of alarm, detection, and water or gas-based suppression systems.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nDesign fire alarm, detection, and water or gas-based suppression systems for new construction, renovations, and occupancy or process changes, including layouts, calculations, specifications, and design packages for internal review and AHJ submittals\nManage operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm and suppression systems\nPlan and execute inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire/life-safety systems (alarms, water-based sprinkler/suppression, gas-based/clean-agent systems, extinguishers) and drive deficiencies to closure\nLead commissioning of fire/life-safety projects from planning through functional and acceptance testing, AHJ witness, and turnover (as-builts, programming, training, and spare parts)\nProvide oversight of fire protection contractors and related construction, including submittal review, field quality, impairments, and punchlist\nCoordinate with facilities trades, operations, environmental health and safety (EHS), contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction on installations, upgrades, certifications, and code interpretations\nMaintain drawings, device lists, calculations, inspection records, permits, and corrective-action logs in an audit-ready state through post-commissioning monitoring\nVerify assigned buildings and modifications remain compliant with adopted building and fire codes and that installed systems operate as designed\nSupport fire hazard and risk review of materials, processes, storage, and layout changes that affect protection or egress\nManage impairments, fire watches, and restoration of protection with documented control of risk\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:\nHigh school diploma or equivalency certificate\n2+ years of experience in the design of fire protection systems, including field installation, inspection, testing, and/or commissioning\nPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\nCurrent NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems, Water-Based Systems (layout and/or inspection & testing), or Special Hazards Systems\nWorking knowledge of building and fire codes and NFPA codes and standards (including NFPA 13, 25, 72, 70, and 2001)\nNICET certification in more than one relevant discipline\nAbility to program and troubleshoot fire alarm systems\nAbility to perform or review sprinkler hydraulic calculations and fire alarm or special-hazard design criteria\nConstruction administration experience in an operating facility\nKnowledge of OSHA requirements\nExperience with wet/dry/pre-action sprinkler and gas-based/clean-agent systems\nAbility to lead project execution from design through commissioning\nADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:\nAbility to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral\nWilling to work extended hours and respond after hours as needed\nWilling to travel for specific project or site needs\nAble to work in active production, test, and construction environments and perform field inspections\nITAR REQUIREMENTS:\nTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
