You’ll be tightly integrated with the engineering teams that design our rockets and spacecraft as well as with our Emmy award-winning webcast team on the launch and event broadcasts for the company. This role requires excellent leadership skills, hands-on technical contribution, an action-oriented disposition, flexibility, and the propensity to flourish in a fast-paced and challenging environment.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nManage the day-to-day activities/priorities of the team.\nProvide primary input for hiring, termination, promotion, performance, and reward decisions for direct reports.\nLead a team of highly skilled IT professionals responsible for implementing and maintaining IT infrastructure that directly supports SpaceX’s launch operations.\nProvide coaching and mentorship to other members of the SpaceX team, fostering team cohesion, knowledge redundancy and professional growth.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to distill requirements and design effective IT solutions that support the entire launch lifecycle from pre-flight preparations to post-launch analysis and recovery operations.\nDrive continuous improvement initiatives to bolster the reliability of IT systems and advance team efficiency -- change management, performance metrics, monitoring, preventative maintenance, incident handling, customer request handling, etc.\nOversee and participate in the day-to-day operation of IT systems, ensuring seamless functionality and reliability during critical launch windows.\nBe an extreme owner of video, voice and network hardware including product selection, procurement, configuration, install, and troubleshooting.\nClosely collaborate with stakeholders and engineers across programs to create highly operable, scalable, and maintainable products.\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:\nBachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, electrical engineering, or other STEM discipline and 5+ years professional video, voice and/or networking engineering experience OR 7+ years professional video, voice and/or networking engineering experience without a degree.\nPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\nExperience leading or managing direct/indirect reports in a team environment.\nExpertise with video broadcast equipment such as video routers, IP video, cameras, audio mixers, voice matrices, video switchers, and wireless two-way radios.\nUnderstanding and experience with broadcast networking transports such as SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, Dante, SRT, RTSP, SIP, and WebRTC.\nAdvanced knowledge of OSI model and network standards.\nHands on networking experience with the following:Arista and Cisco Catalyst data center class switches.\nFiber optics and wave division multiplexing.\nDNS, DHCP, PTP, SNMP, LACP, IGMP, PIM-SM.\n\nADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:\nValid driver’s license.\nAbility to work in tight quarters and physical dexterity is necessary to preform job functions.\nAvailability for extended hours and/or weekends, as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required.\nAbility to provide 24x7 on-call support in emergency situations.\nAvailability for occasional travel, as required (<25%).\nPosition is subject to pre-employment and (as applicable) periodic background, drug, and alcohol testing.\nAbility to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg Space Force Base.\nITAR REQUIREMENTS:\nTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
