We create mission critical applications that are used throughout SpaceX to accelerate launch vehicle production and flight as well as systems that allow Starlink to grow into a worldwide fast, reliable Internet service. Our team is currently creating a platform and tooling that enables access to the compute, storage, and networking required to achieve those goals.\nThe ideal candidate has strong software engineering fundamentals and a passion for infrastructure: reliability, stability, proactive maintenance, and scalability. You understand the system before you change it, solve hard problems, communicate clearly with stakeholders and teammates, and take ownership of work that manufacturing depends on. \nAerospace experience is not required. We value smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who treat teammates with fairness, respect, and support, and who want to take full ownership of challenging problems to help make humanity multi-planetary.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nDeploy, upgrade, operate, maintain, and scale our suite of mission-critical products and services\nManage our underlying infrastructure as code and use modern observability tools to provide a complete picture of application health\nClosely collaborate with software engineers to design and build highly operable, maintainable, and testable systems\nEngage in and improve the entire software development lifecycle - from inception and design through deployment, operation, and continuous refinement\nPractice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems\nProvide high-quality end-user support to vehicle software engineers\nParticipate in the team’s on-call rotation\nIdentify and eliminate performance bottlenecks using measurement and creative engineering\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or an engineering discipline; OR 3+ years of professional experience in SRE or DevOps in lieu of a degree\nExperience with Linux operating systems\nPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\nProgramming experience in Python, C#, Go, JavaScript, etc\nExperience with on premise compute, storage, and/or networking infrastructure in production\nExperience with both container and virtualization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, vSphere, QEMU, KVM, etc.)\nExperience with databases and data modeling (Postgres, MySQL, ClickHouse, etc.)\nExperience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools for managing fleets of servers (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, etc.)\nKnowledge of the technologies that predate and underpin modern cloud infrastructure, with the ability to translate high-level developer experiences into specific implementations from first principles\nAbility to work with mission-critical and sensitive systems with appropriate urgency and care\nAbility to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and management in both formal and informal settings\nADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:\nMust be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed\nThis role requires you to be onsite. Remote and/or hybrid work will not be considered\nCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:\nPay Range:\nLevel 1: $125,000.00 - $160,000.00\nLevel 2: $145,000.00 - $195,000.00\nYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.\nBase salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
