ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER, BUSINESS OPERATIONS\nThe Sr. Environmental Engineer will support the Business Operations team in developing and managing organization-wide environmental programs. This role is critical in ensuring environmental compliance while enabling SpaceX operational targets to meet aggressive timelines. The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert to mitigate environmental risks, optimize resource use and maintain full regulatory compliance in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nDevelop, implement, and continuously improve environmental programs at SpaceX\nServe as a subject matter expert for site specific environmental partners\nMaintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations established by the EPA, and state programs\nTrack, review, and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management\nPerform environmental audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies\nAudit and maintain the compliance calendar and other recordkeeping and environmental tracking software\nAudit site operational compliance plans including the storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and spill prevention control and countermeasures plan (SPCC)\nAudit site hazardous materials business plan including updates and regulatory submittals\nAudit site industrial wastewater discharge permit including updates and regulatory submittals\nResponsible for hazardous waste compliance and regulatory reporting\nCoordinate and manage contractors for permitting and environmental testing. Review and maintain reports and other relevant records from assessments and permitting activities\nAssist the Environmental Health and Safety team with site operational compliance as needed\nDevelop and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and county regulators\nDevelop and maintain positive and close working relationships with engineering teams across the organization\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor’s degree\n5+ years of professional experience in the design, development, and execution of environmental and regulatory compliance programs\nPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE\nBachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering\nExperience working multi-site operations\nExperience in environmental field with 6+ years of environmental and regulatory compliance\nStrong knowledge of EPA and statewide environmental regulations spanning the United States\nHands-on experience with SWPPPs, Best Management Practices (BMPs), industrial wastewater permitting, and SPCC plans\nStrong written and verbal communication skills. Experience handling highly technical data and technical data interpretation\nTrack record of successful analysis, interpretation, and application of rules and regulations towards practical solution\nAble to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, federal, state and county agencies\nAbility to handle many projects at once, prioritize work, and work efficiently\nAbility to work independently and respond at short notice\nHighly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work\nADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS\nPosition requires up to 25% travel to other SpaceX sites as needed\nPosition occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed\nITAR REQUIREMENTS:\nTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
