Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.\nSENIOR FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER\nThe Senior Fire Protection Engineer provides advanced design and operations engineering support and subject matter expertise in fire protection, life safety, building and fire codes, fire hazard and risk assessment of materials and processes, fire and smoke spread, fire detection, alarm and sprinkler system design, industrial fire hazards, fire investigation support, and other fire and life safety topics. This role leads complex design-evaluations, mentors junior engineers, and delivers robust solutions for SpaceX including large scale manufacturing environments.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nLead engineering design, analysis, calculations, and specifications for facility fire and life safety systems\nDevelop building and fire code compliance documents and fire life safety designs for SpaceX facilities\nDevelop AM&M (Alternate Means & Methods) to local AHJ to support performance-based design criteria that meet the intent of code\nPerform and oversee hazardous material analysis for code compliance, including chemical classification, chemical maximum allowable quantity analysis, chemical inventory management, and related system design support\nSupport facility construction and operations teams to develop field solutions and resolve technical issues\nSupport and lead aspects of commissioning activities during pre-test and AHJ testing phases for launch site facility builds\nConduct fire/life safety code reviews and analyses\nPrepare and present technical reports and presentations\nReview and comment on shop drawing design packages developed by contractors/engineering firms\nMentor junior engineers and contribute to project team leadership\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:\nBachelor’s degree\n5+ years of experience in the design and construction of fire protection systems and/or fire protection consulting\nPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline\nWorking knowledge of Building & Fire Codes and NFPA Codes & Standards\nDegree in fire protection engineering\nProfessional Engineer License (P.E.)\nNICET certification in relevant fire protection programs\nAbility to lead project design teams and mentor others\nKnowledgeable in OSHA compliance\nFire & Smoke software modeling capabilities\nConstruction Administration experience\nProficient in Autodesk Revit\nADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:\nWilling to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed\nWilling to travel for specific project needs\nITAR REQUIREMENTS:\nTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
