This role owns inventory and cost accounting across our contract manufacturing and consignment arrangements, drives the monthly close and reconciliation process, and partners closely with the Senior Manager, Accounting on external audit support and financial statement preparation. Beyond core accounting, this person will also own revenue recognition and lease accounting entries and will mentor and develop direct reports as the team grows. The ideal candidate is an agile, fast-learning accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and builds strong cross-functional partnerships across Supply Chain, FP&A, and Legal. Critical skills for this position include solid experience with US GAAP, clear communications, being a team player, maintaining confidentiality, detail-oriented, and acting with the highest degree of integrity.\nAbout You\nRequired Qualifications\nDemonstrated experience and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and accruals\n\nMinimum 5 years hands-on experience with contract manufacturing and consignment inventory accounting in a manufacturing or hardware environment, revenue recognition (ASC 606) and lease accounting (ASC 842).\n\nExperience handing accounting and reporting for Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) entities; and managing/supporting standalone entity reporting\n\nMust have experience running the accounting close process and managing expectations, communications and deadlines\n\nMust have experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis\n\nExperience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis\n\nMust have a recent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills\n\nMust have proficiency with NetSuite. Experience with FloQast or Blackline, Salesforce and Boomi is a plus.\n\nDemonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance partners\n\nPrior experience mentoring, coaching, or managing direct reports\n\nAgile, adaptable, and a fast learner, comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment\n\nHigh degree of accuracy and attention to detail.\n\nProactive, self-motivated, takes initiative and ability to work with little supervision\n\nTeam player with a positive attitude; flexible to adapt to changing needs/priorities.\n\nBonus Qualifications\nExperience writing technical accounting analysis and memoranda preferred\n\nMfg./electrification industry experience a plus\n\nPublic accounting experience preferred\n\nCPA preferred\n\nResponsibilities, Duties, and Expectations:\nInventory & Cost Accounting (Contract Manufacturing & Consignment)\nOwn inventory and cost accounting for products manufactured through contract manufacturers (CMs) and EMS partners, ensuring accurate standard costing, purchase price variance (PPV) analysis, and overhead absorption\n\nManage full-cycle consignment accounting for inventory held at CM/EMS locations and distribution partners, including transfers, usage reporting, and reconciliation against counterparty records\n\nMaintain inventory valuation and reserves - including slow-moving, excess, and obsolete (SLOB) inventory - in accordance with GAAP\n\nPartner with Supply Chain and Operations to validate inventory movements, cycle counts, and cost data integrity within the ERP system\n\nMonth-End Close, Reconciliations & Reporting\nLead and/or support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation and review of journal entries\n\nPrepare and review balance sheet reconciliations across key accounts; perform flux analysis and deliver clear, well-supported variance explanations to Finance leadership\n\nAssist the Senior Manager, Accounting in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules\n\nMaintain audit-ready documentation and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, including preparing PBC items and responding to audit inquiries\n\nRevenue Recognition & Lease Accounting\nPrepare and review revenue recognition entries in accordance with ASC 606, leveraging a semi-automated revenue process/system\n\nPrepare and review lease accounting entries under ASC 842, including maintenance of right-of-use asset and lease liability schedules\n\nIdentify and help implement process improvements to increase automation and reduce close cycle time in these areas\n\nTeam Leadership & Development\nMentor and coach direct report(s) as applicable, providing guidance on technical accounting matters and supporting their professional growth\n\nFoster a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement within the accounting team\n\nCross-Functional Partnership\nBuild strong, trusted relationships with Supply Chain, FP&A, and Legal to ensure accounting treatment aligns with business operations and contract terms\n\nAct as a proactive finance partner to cross-functional stakeholders, translating accounting concepts into practical business guidance\n\nSupport ad hoc projects, system implementations, and process improvements across the broader Accounting organization\n\nLife at SPAN\nHeadquartered in San Francisco’s vibrant SoMa neighborhood, we are an eclectic group of creative thinkers who value open communication, teamwork, and a ‘make it happen’ approach to addressing complex challenges.\nSPAN embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way.
