We are a small, agile legal team seeking a strong transactional attorney looking to develop a broad skillset in an entrepreneurial, roll up your sleeves environment. You are equally comfortable advising on negotiation strategy as contributing to the administrative tasks necessary to keep a legal department running efficiently. You are more utility infielder/swiss army knife than position player/specialty tool, but you are ready to add immediate value in at least one of the following areas: commercial contracting, intellectual property, privacy/security, supply chain, M&A/Project Finance. You are passionate about electrification and working with mission-driven colleagues, and thrive diving into unfamiliar territory. This role reports directly to the General Counsel.\nAbout You\nRequired Qualifications\nJ.D. from an accredited law school and member of the California Bar in good standing\n\n8+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney (3+ years in U.S. law firm)\n\nSignificant experience reviewing, negotiating, and executing a wide range of commercial agreements\n\nTrack record of building strong relationships and successfully collaborating with teams throughout the organization\n\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills\n\nSelf-starter with proven ability to achieve results and work independently\n\nComfortable in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving workplace\n\nIntellectually curious with a sense of humor\n\nValue diversity and inclusion\n\nBonus Qualifications\n3+ years as in-house counsel\n\nExperience developing and managing intellectual property portfolios\n\nProficiency in Ironclad or other contract management platforms\n\nExperience working with teams focused on hardware manufacturing, supply chain, SAAS, and customer support\n\nUnderstanding of electricity distribution grid, utility regulation, and virtual power plants\n\nExperience advising companies developing AI or incorporating AI into their business practices.\n\nLife at SPAN\nHeadquartered in San Francisco’s vibrant SoMa neighborhood, we are an eclectic group of creative thinkers who value open communication, teamwork, and a ‘make it happen’ approach to addressing complex challenges.\nSPAN embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way.
