This role provides senior project leadership across the full project lifecycle - from initial scoping and estimating through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout - for programs that may include multiple concurrent projects, sites, contractors, and internal delivery teams.\nActing as the single point of accountability for assigned programs, the Program Manager, Major Projects leads cross-functional and often cross-regional teams, manages client and stakeholder relationships at a senior level, and ensures that safety, quality, schedule, and financial targets are met or exceeded. This position blends the technical rigor of a traditional high voltage/low voltage Project Manager with the broader coordination, governance, and reporting responsibilities required to run programs at scale.\nDuring periods when this role is not directly executing an active project or program, the Program Manager, Major Projects is integrated into Spark Power's commercial operations, supporting the pursuit of new proposals and business opportunities within the Major Projects portfolio. This ensures the individual's field and technical expertise continue to add value between active assignments while strengthening the quality and competitiveness of Spark Power's bids.\nHere’s what you will do as a Program Manager, Major Projects\nServe as the single point of accountability for the successful delivery of assigned major projects and programs, spanning high voltage and low voltage electrical scopes. \nLead project teams (internal staff, subcontractors, and vendors) through all phases of the project lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring/control, and closeout. \nWhere a program includes multiple linked projects, provide overall program governance - coordinating scope, schedule, and resource interdependencies across individual project managers and workstreams. \nDevelop and maintain the project execution plan, including scope definition, work breakdown structure, resourcing strategy, and delivery milestones. \nDevelop and maintain integrated project schedules, identifying critical path activities and proactively managing schedule risk. \nCoordinate engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities to ensure work is sequenced safely and efficiently across HV and LV scopes. \nManage orders, scope changes, and variations, ensuring appropriate approvals, documentation, and client sign-off. \nMonitor project progress against baseline plans and implement corrective action plans where variances arise. \nOwn the project/program budget, including forecasting, cost control, invoicing, and margin performance, reporting variances to senior leadership. \nSupport estimating, proposal development, and contract negotiation for new project and program opportunities. \nReview and administer contracts (client and subcontractor) to protect Spark Power's commercial interests and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. \nManage cash flow, billing milestones, and accounts receivable related to assigned projects. \nWhen not directly executing a project or program, integrate into Spark Power's commercial operations team to support the pursuit of new business opportunities within the Major Projects portfolio. \nSpark Power Employee Benefits and Perks\nCompetitive compensation\nRRSP program with company matching\nExcellent benefits package with wellness spending account options\nContinuous training and skills improvement\nCareer advancement opportunities\nFun and supportive company culture\n…and much more\nDo you have the Spark? Here’s what we’re looking for:\nBachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience will be considered. \n5+ years of progressive project/program management experience delivering electrical infrastructure projects, with direct experience in both high voltage (>800V) and low voltage systems. \nPrior experience in substation construction, utility/industrial electrical projects, renewable energy (solar/wind/BESS), or comparable heavy electrical infrastructure work is strongly preferred. \nPrior experience in substation construction, utility/industrial electrical projects, renewable energy (solar/wind/BESS), or comparable heavy electrical infrastructure work is strongly preferred. \nExperience managing subcontractors, EPC-style delivery, and client-facing commercial relationships. \nProfessional Engineering designation (P.Eng. in Canada or PE in the U.S.), or active pursuit of licensure, is strongly preferred. \nRed Seal/journeyman certification as an Electrician or Powerline Technician, combined with equivalent field leadership and project delivery experience, are equally encouraged to apply and will be given strong consideration in lieu of a P.Eng./PE designation. \nProject Management Professional (PMP) certification, or working toward one, preferred. \nValid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required. \nAdditional relevant safety certifications (e.g., NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR) are an asset. \nWho is Spark Power?\nSpark Power is the leading independent provider of end-to-end electrical services and operations and maintenance services to the industrial, utility, and renewable asset markets in North America.
