Solar Permitting Manager

Department: Permitting

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $75-80k/Year

We Need Someone Who Knows Solar Permitting Inside and Out.

Not someone who simply submits permits.

We're looking for an exceptional Solar Permitting Manager who understands the complexities of residential solar permitting, knows how to navigate challenging jurisdictions, and has the experience to lead a high-performing permitting operation.

Someone who understands that a permit isn't just paperwork. It's a critical step in keeping a project moving, an installation on schedule, and a customer informed.

If you're the person everyone turns to when an AHJ throws a curveball, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Own

Permitting Operations & Project Execution

  • Lead and oversee the residential solar permitting process from initial application through final permit approval.
  • Manage permitting workflows across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Oversee permit submissions, corrections, resubmissions, approvals, and outstanding requirements.
  • Identify permitting bottlenecks and implement solutions that improve turnaround times.
  • Monitor permitting timelines, workloads, and team performance to ensure projects move forward.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Design, Sales, Installation, and other operational departments to resolve issues impacting permit approvals.

AHJ Requirements & Regulatory Compliance

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), municipal permitting requirements, and residential solar regulations.
  • Navigate varying jurisdictional requirements, documentation standards, and approval processes.
  • Understand applicable building, electrical, and fire code requirements as they relate to residential solar installations.
  • Resolve permit rejections, plan review comments, and compliance issues quickly and effectively.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changing permitting requirements and ensure internal processes reflect those changes.
  • Build productive working relationships with AHJs and other regulatory stakeholders.

Team Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead, coach, and develop a permitting team capable of managing a high-volume project pipeline.
  • Establish clear expectations for quality, productivity, turnaround times, and accountability.
  • Identify training opportunities and strengthen team knowledge of jurisdictional requirements.
  • Balance workloads, establish priorities, and ensure timely follow-through.
  • Create and improve standard operating procedures that support accuracy, consistency, and scalability.
  • Use operational data to identify recurring issues, measure performance, and drive continuous improvement.

Communication, Escalation & Problem Resolution

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex permitting issues.
  • Communicate confidently and effectively with internal leadership, cross-functional teams, AHJs, and external partners.
  • Recognize when an issue requires immediate escalation, direct intervention, or a different approach.
  • De-escalate challenging situations professionally while maintaining accountability and urgency.
  • Provide clear, accurate updates regarding permitting delays, risks, and resolution plans.
  • Anticipate problems before they impact installation schedules or customer expectations.
What You Absolutely Must Bring
  • Extensive hands-on residential solar permitting experience. This is nonnegotiable.
  • Proven experience managing or leading solar permitting operations and teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of AHJ requirements, permit application processes, plan reviews, corrections, and approvals.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable residential solar building, electrical, and fire codes.
  • Demonstrated success managing permitting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience overseeing high-volume permitting pipelines and competing deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team accountability skills.
  • Proven ability to resolve complex permitting challenges independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and operational judgment.
  • Ability to pivot quickly, prioritize effectively, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Experience developing workflows, improving processes, and measuring operational performance.
The Person We're Looking For

You're the person who knows that "we're waiting on the city" isn't a strategy.

You know when to follow up, when to investigate, when to escalate, and when the problem is actually on our side.

You don't allow applications to sit unnecessarily. You don't accept recurring corrections as business as usual. And you don't confuse activity with progress.

You understand that every jurisdiction is different, every delay has consequences, and every successful permitting operation depends on knowledgeable people, effective processes, and consistent accountability.

You can lead a team, challenge an inefficient process, handle a difficult conversation, and solve a complicated problem—sometimes all before lunch.

You don't just manage permits. You manage outcomes.

Why SpartanX?

At SpartanX, we value operational expertise, accountability, initiative, and people who take ownership of their responsibilities.

We're looking for a leader who can strengthen our permitting operations, develop our team, improve efficiency, and help create a more consistent, scalable process.

This is an opportunity to bring your expertise to a role where your knowledge, judgment, and leadership can make a meaningful difference.

Ready to Lead?

We're not looking for someone who needs to learn how solar permitting works.

We're looking for someone who knows it well enough to lead it, improve it, and solve the problems everyone else struggles with.

If that's you, apply today.
