Join our community of professionals shaping the future of clean energy, where every project reflects our promise of Solar Done Right.\n\nSolar Permitting Manager\nDepartment: Permitting\n\nLocation: Remote\n\nEmployment Type: Full-Time\n\nCompensation: $75-80k/Year\n\nWe Need Someone Who Knows Solar Permitting Inside and Out.\n\nNot someone who simply submits permits.\nWe're looking for an exceptional Solar Permitting Manager who understands the complexities of residential solar permitting, knows how to navigate challenging jurisdictions, and has the experience to lead a high-performing permitting operation.\n\nSomeone who understands that a permit isn't just paperwork. It's a critical step in keeping a project moving, an installation on schedule, and a customer informed.\n\nIf you're the person everyone turns to when an AHJ throws a curveball, we want to talk to you.\n\nWhat You'll Own\nPermitting Operations & Project Execution\n\nLead and oversee the residential solar permitting process from initial application through final permit approval.\n\nManage permitting workflows across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.\n\nOversee permit submissions, corrections, resubmissions, approvals, and outstanding requirements.\n\nIdentify permitting bottlenecks and implement solutions that improve turnaround times.\n\nMonitor permitting timelines, workloads, and team performance to ensure projects move forward.\n\nCoordinate with Engineering, Design, Sales, Installation, and other operational departments to resolve issues impacting permit approvals.\n\nAHJ Requirements & Regulatory Compliance\n\nDemonstrate extensive knowledge of Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), municipal permitting requirements, and residential solar regulations.\n\nNavigate varying jurisdictional requirements, documentation standards, and approval processes.\n\nUnderstand applicable building, electrical, and fire code requirements as they relate to residential solar installations.\n\nResolve permit rejections, plan review comments, and compliance issues quickly and effectively.\n\nMaintain current knowledge of changing permitting requirements and ensure internal processes reflect those changes.\n\nBuild productive working relationships with AHJs and other regulatory stakeholders.\n\nTeam Leadership & Accountability\n\nLead, coach, and develop a permitting team capable of managing a high-volume project pipeline.\n\nEstablish clear expectations for quality, productivity, turnaround times, and accountability.\n\nIdentify training opportunities and strengthen team knowledge of jurisdictional requirements.\n\nBalance workloads, establish priorities, and ensure timely follow-through.\n\nCreate and improve standard operating procedures that support accuracy, consistency, and scalability.\n\nUse operational data to identify recurring issues, measure performance, and drive continuous improvement.\n\nCommunication, Escalation & Problem Resolution\n\nServe as the primary escalation point for complex permitting issues.\n\nCommunicate confidently and effectively with internal leadership, cross-functional teams, AHJs, and external partners.\n\nRecognize when an issue requires immediate escalation, direct intervention, or a different approach.\n\nDe-escalate challenging situations professionally while maintaining accountability and urgency.\n\nProvide clear, accurate updates regarding permitting delays, risks, and resolution plans.\n\nAnticipate problems before they impact installation schedules or customer expectations.\n\nWhat You Absolutely Must Bring\n\nExtensive hands-on residential solar permitting experience. This is nonnegotiable.\n\nProven experience managing or leading solar permitting operations and teams.\n\nComprehensive understanding of AHJ requirements, permit application processes, plan reviews, corrections, and approvals.\n\nStrong working knowledge of applicable residential solar building, electrical, and fire codes.\n\nDemonstrated success managing permitting across multiple jurisdictions.\n\nExperience overseeing high-volume permitting pipelines and competing deadlines.\n\nExceptional written and verbal communication skills.\n\nStrong leadership, coaching, and team accountability skills.\n\nProven ability to resolve complex permitting challenges independently.\n\nExcellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and operational judgment.\n\nAbility to pivot quickly, prioritize effectively, and make sound decisions under pressure.\n\nExperience developing workflows, improving processes, and measuring operational performance.\n\nThe Person We're Looking For\nYou're the person who knows that \"we're waiting on the city\" isn't a strategy.\n\nYou know when to follow up, when to investigate, when to escalate, and when the problem is actually on our side.\n\nYou don't allow applications to sit unnecessarily.
