SFI is responsible for providing full life cycle software development / DevOps for a federal agency.\nSummary of Major Job Functions:\nThe position will focus on developing, enhancing, maintaining, and automating web applications and data-processing workflows. The successful candidate will have strong software engineering fundamentals, analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience working across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).\nThe position will primarily involve Python development, web applications, databases and SQL, process automation, and software quality control. Experience with GIS and geospatial applications is beneficial, but strong software engineering skills and the ability to learn and apply new technologies are the primary requirements.\nPrimary Responsibilities:\nSoftware Engineering: Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance software applications using established software engineering principles and practices.\nWeb Applications: Develop and maintain modern web applications. The current environment uses Vue.js, so experience with Vue or other modern web frameworks and the ability to apply transferable framework concepts are important.\nPython & Automation: Develop Python applications and automated workflows to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and support Census product creation and delivery.\nAnalysis & Problem Solving: Analyze business and technical requirements, understand existing processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop logical and maintainable solutions.\nDatabases & SQL: Develop and maintain database-driven applications and workflows, including writing and troubleshooting SQL queries.\nSDLC & Testing: Participate throughout the SDLC, including requirements analysis, design, development, code reviews, testing, integration, deployment, maintenance, and documentation.\nQuality Control: Support software quality control and testing activities, including identifying defects and integrating QC into automated workflows where appropriate.\nApplication Enhancement: Maintain and enhance existing applications, including front-end improvements, extension of capabilities, and potential modernization or redevelopment.\nCollaboration: Work closely with Census staff, developers, analysts, and other technical teams to develop and implement effective software solutions. \nRequirements\nBachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent\n7+ years of professional software engineering or software development experience.\n5+ years of professional Python development experience.\n3+ years of web application development experience using modern web technologies and frameworks.\nStrong understanding of software engineering principles, SDLC practices, and application design.\nExperience working with relational databases and SQL\nExperience working in both Linux and Windows environments\nStrong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. \nDesired Skills & Qualifications\nExperience with Vue.js or other modern JavaScript frameworks.\nExperience with metadata automation.\nExperience with software quality control and automated testing.\nExperience with GIS, geospatial data, or Esri technologies.\nFamiliarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.\nExperience with RESTful APIs and web services.\nAdditional Information\nTo meet the clearance requirements for this opportunity, candidates must be authorized to work in the US\nAll candidates will be subject to a complete background check, including, but not limited to, Criminal History, Education Verification, Professional Certification Verification, Verification of Previous Employment, and Credit History.\nPublic Trust background investigations can take approximately four to eight weeks and require fingerprinting.\nOther Information\nClearance: Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.\nPublic Trust investigations typically take 4-8 weeks and require fingerprinting.\nWork Environment: Flexible/remote, with occasional on-site support as needed.\nSalary Range: $90,000 - $130,000 annually\nBenefits: SFI offers a comprehensive benefits package.
