As part of this project, consultants will contribute to the development and support of technologies that underpin NATO's operational effectiveness and long-term digital transformation.\nStorage & Backup Engineer \nRole ID:TG-001-2 \nRole Background \nThe ideal candidate is an experienced Storage and Backup Engineer with at least 8 years of hands-on experience in supporting, designing, managing and optimizing enterprise storage and backup environments. The candidate will work under the guidance of the Team Lead, Infrastructure Operations, and collaborate with other support teams. The candidate is expected to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, a proactive approach to service improvements and the ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented environment. \nRole Duties and Responsibilities \nProvide engineering expertise and day-to-day administration of the organization’s storage and backup infrastructure, including the following duties: \nDesign and implement enterprise storage and backup architectures aligned with business, availability, recovery, capacity, and security requirements. \nAdminister and maintain storage arrays, SAN fabrics, and backup platforms, including daily health checks, storage provisioning, host integration, backup client configuration, schedules, retention policies, and replication. \nPlan and execute installations, upgrades, migrations, capacity expansions, and proof-of-concept deployments, including testing, validation, and rollback procedures. \nMonitor and analyze system health, performance, capacity, and backup success; resolve bottlenecks and implement improvements. \nResolve incidents, problems, and service requests; provide Tier 3 support, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions. \nPerform restores and recovery tests, and support disaster-recovery exercises to validate data protection and recovery capabilities. \nApply security controls, hardening standards, and approved configuration changes in accordance with established policies and change-management procedures. \nCollaborate with vendors and internal teams on maintenance, upgrades, interoperability, and complex issue resolution. \nDevelop and maintain tools and scripts to automate storage and backup provisioning, monitoring, reporting, and routine operations. \nDeliver storage and backup projects for the organization and its partner entities, including technical assessments, business cases, project proposals, and operational handover. \nMaintain technical designs, configuration records, runbooks, and recovery procedures; share knowledge and promote best practices within the team. \nParticipate in standby/on-call duties, planned maintenance, and other service-coverage arrangements when required. \nEssential Skills, Experience and Certifications \nEssential Skills: \n Minimum 8+ years of relevant IT work experience in managing and configuring enterprise Storage and Backup environments and related services in a complex heterogenous environment. \nExtensive hands-on experience in the administration and troubleshooting of block and file storage systems across multiple vendor platforms (e.g., NetApp, Dell PowerStore, Dell ECS systems) \nExcellent knowledge in the installation and administration of Enterprise Backup systems (e.g., DELL Avamar, PPDM, Data Domain, Veeam B&R and other market leaders in backup solutions) \nExpert-level troubleshooting and problem resolution for storage and backup infrastructures. \nSolid understanding and knowledge of storage technologies (Cisco/Brocade Fabric switches, VSANs, WWPNs, NPIV, multipathing, Fibre channel, iSCSI) \nStrong understanding of data protection, disaster recovery, and best practices in backup and storage management. \nGood understanding and knowledge of networking technologies \nWorking Experience in shell scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible, Terraform) \nAbility to work under pressure with minimum supervision \nCustomer-centric approach to delivery and problem solving \nGood knowledge of ITIL service management methodology. \nDesirable Skills: \nExperience with Hyper Converged Infrastructure or Software Defined Storage solutions is an advantage. \nGood presentation skills and ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical audience \nExperience with service reporting and business analytics \nExperience with cloud storage solutions (e.g., AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage) \nExperience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) \n\nDesirable Certifications: \nIT diploma \nIndustry-recognized certifications in Storage, Backup, or Cloud Technologies. \nCertifications in any programming language or scripting framework (e.g., Python, Ansible, PowerShell). \nITIL, ISO20000, PRINCE2 certifications \nWorking Location: \nValencia, Spain and Brindisi, Italy \nRemote work is restricted to
