You know how to hold the line on technical quality without slowing a team down, and you’re comfortable working between engineering and product, translating fluently between both worlds. You care deeply about the people you lead and the systems you build together.\nAt splose, you’ll lead a product delivery team through the full cycle of building software that matters. This is a player-coach role: around two-thirds of your time will be spent hands-on as a senior engineer, designing, building, and reviewing code alongside your team, and around one-third on line management, coaching, mentoring, and developing the engineers who report to you. You’ll be the connective tissue between engineering rigour and product ambition, leading by example in the codebase as much as in one-on-ones.\nWhat you’ll do:\nHands-on engineering (~2/3 of your time)\nWrite, review, and ship production code as a senior contributor on your team’s highest-impact and most technically complex work\n\nLead architectural decisions, system design, and engineering trade-offs, and build key parts of those designs yourself\n\nSet the standard for code quality, testing, deployment, and operational excellence through your own work and your code reviews\n\nDrive delivery by breaking down work, managing scope, and removing technical blockers so the team can ship high-quality features reliably\n\nContribute to engineering-wide initiatives that improve developer experience, system reliability, and the organisation’s ability to scale\n\nLeadership and line management (~1/3 of your time)\nLine manage a small team of engineers, owning their wellbeing, engagement, and career growth through regular one-on-ones, feedback, and development planning\n\nCoach and mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, and code review, growing the technical capability of the team\n\nPartner with product managers and designers to shape roadmaps and prioritise work, balancing customer value with technical health\n\nFoster a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement\n\nCommunicate priorities, risks, and progress clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders\n\nWhat we’re looking for:\nSeveral years of software engineering experience, with recent hands-on coding in a senior or lead role\n\nExperience leading or line managing engineers, as a team lead, tech lead with direct reports, or engineering manager who has stayed close to the code\n\nStrong software engineering fundamentals, with the ability to design, build, and review complex systems\n\nProven ability to deliver software at scale in a fast-moving, collaborative environment\n\nExperience balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical health\n\nKnowledge of modern development practices including CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure\n\nStrong communication skills with the ability to bridge engineering, product, and business perspectives\n\nTrack record of building trust across teams and stakeholders\n\nRelevant university degree or equivalent practical experience\n\nExperience in SaaS or cloud-native architectures\n\nFamiliarity with agile and product-led engineering practices\n\nBackground in driving organisational improvements, from hiring processes to technical governance\n\nExperience guiding teams through complex architectural decisions and system design challenges\n\nNext Steps:\nOnly shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an initial screening call by our internal TA team.\nEqual Opportunity Employer:\nsplose is an equal opportunity employer.
