From our award-winning point-of-sale to AI-powered profit tools, everything we do helps operators boost profit, work smarter, and keep their best people. And every solution is backed by real humans who actually give a sh*t about helping restaurants succeed.\nNamed the #1 Restaurant POS by G2 (Summer 2026), based on ratings from real users\n\nRated the top-rated point-of-sale (POS) for restaurants, bars, retail, and small businesses by Capterra users\n\nAwarded Great Places to Work and Built In’s Best Workplaces for multiple years running\n\nWe move fast, care hard, and fight for independent restaurant operators to do what they love, and love doing it. If you’re looking to make an impact with heart and hustle, SpotOn is the place for you.\nEngineering Manager, Infrastructure\nLocation: United States - US remote, or our Chicago or Detroit offices\nReports to: Director of Platform Engineering\nThe opportunity\nEvery SpotOn engineering team ships code through the delivery platform this team owns, and runs it on the Kubernetes platform it operates. You'll lead the two Infrastructure teams responsible for both: Delivery (CI/CD, GitOps, and the developer platform) and Compute (Kubernetes, EC2).\nThe platform is mid-transformation. We're consolidating onto one standard path GitHub Actions, Argo CD, and EKS and retiring legacy clusters and pipelines along the way. We are tightening governance and PCI DSS 4.0.1 compliance and bringing AI into how engineers use the platform. You'll take on a strong, experienced team with staff engineers already leading technical work. What it needs from you is people leadership, a customer-focused mindset, a clear operating model, and someone who keeps the platform moving forward and supporting the business.\nWhat the teams own\nCI/CD for all of engineering: GitHub Actions with a self-hosted Actions Runner Controller (ARC) fleet, and AWS-managed Argo CD running a hub per domain and serving about 3,700 workloads.\n\nThe developer platform: Backstage (catalog, software templates, golden paths), container and artifact registries, secrets delivery, and platform documentation. This includes our platform MCP server and AI skills for engineers.\n\nThe EKS fleet: more than 23 GitOps-managed clusters plus the Argo CD hub clusters. That covers capacity and autoscaling with Karpenter, cluster add-ons, Kyverno policy, and a standard Helm chart that defines the contract for every workload.\n\nCluster lifecycle: EKS upgrades three times a year across about 40 environments in five tiers, coordinated with the teams whose services run on them.\n\nWhat you'll do\nLead and grow the team. Run 1:1s, set clear expectations, give candid feedback, and own performance and career development.\n\nFree your staff engineers to lead technically. Take on the management and coordination work so they can concentrate on architecture, technical collaboration, and the hardest technical problems.\n\nCollaborate with our other Platform EMs. We may be organized into several teams, but we are one platform domain first. The team boundaries are soft, existing only to help organize expertise.\n\nHelp drive operational efficiency. Building and maintaining an efficient and effective platform is a force multiplier for both humans and agents.\n\nHelp finish the platform consolidation. Drive the remaining legacy retirement work to completion. That means coordinating with service-owning teams across every R&D domain, keeping risks visible to leadership, and making sure post-migration cleanup has clear owners.\n\nRun the fleet predictably. Make cluster upgrades, capacity work, and partner notifications routine and owned by the team. Balance interrupt-driven work against roadmap commitments.\n\nTreat engineers as customers. Make the golden path the easiest path through good defaults, templates, documentation, and AI-assisted tooling. Use feedback from consuming teams to decide what to build next.\n\nOwn reliability and compliance. Lead incident response and learning for delivery and compute, follow through on systemic fixes, and partner with Security on PCI DSS controls for payments workloads.\n\nWhat success looks like\nFirst 90 days: You know the team, the platform, and its customers. Every engineer has regular 1:1s and clear expectations. You’ve got a grasp on how we work, the problems we face, and how we improve our ability to serve the business. You’ve worked with the other Infrastructure leaders on areas of ownership.\nFirst year: There’s a clear roadmap for your areas of ownership. We’re placing bets and executing on them successfully. Legacy platforms are fully retired, and every cleanup item has an owner and is closed. Maintenance cycles continue to land on schedule without fire drills. Staff engineers spend their time on technical leadership, not coordination. Every engineer has a growth plan, and the team's interrupt load is measured and trending down.\nWhat we're looking for\nRequired\n3+ years managing engineers on platform, infrastructure, or developer-productivity teams.\n\nExperience leading senior and staff-level engineers. You can set direction without being the deepest expert in the room.\n\nSound technical judgment in Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), and in CI/CD and GitOps delivery. You can assess designs, production risk, and trade-offs, and ask the questions that lead to durable solutions.\n\nA track record of delivering cross-team platform migrations or adoption programs, including managing dependencies across many teams and communicating risk to leadership.\n\nExperience owning production reliability: on-call health, incident response, and systemic follow-through.\n\nClear, direct communication with engineers, peer leaders, and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nHelpful, not required\nHands-on experience with Argo CD, GitHub Actions, Karpenter, Kyverno, or Backstage.\n\nExperience building internal developer platforms with a product mindset: golden paths, self-service, and developer experience metrics.\n\nExperience in a PCI DSS or similarly regulated environment.\n\nExperience applying AI tools to developer workflows or platform operations.\n\nExperience leading a team distributed across US and European time zones, or a clear plan for doing it well.\n\nCompensation:\nOur base pay range starts at $180,000 -$215,000/year for this role\nPlease note the salary range listed is just one component of a competitive compensation package which includes a company stock plan\nOffers will be reflective of the candidate’s location and experience.\nBenefits:\nAt SpotOn, we put people above everything else. We’re known for our innovative software and\ntechnology solutions, but we stand out because of the hard-working humans behind the tech.\nWe can’t take care of our clients without taking care of our employees first, and that’s why we\ninvest in you with a competitive benefits package which includes:\nMedical, Dental and Vision Insurance\n401k with company match\nRSUs\nPaid vacation, 10 company holidays, sick time, and volunteer time off\nEmployee Resource Groups to build community and inclusion at work\nMonthly cell phone and internet stipend\nTuition reimbursement for up to $2,000 per calendar year to assist with your professional development\nWe will never ask candidates to pay fees, purchase equipment, or share sensitive personal or financial information during the hiring process. All legitimate communication from our recruiting team will come from an official company email address (@spoton.com).
