About The Role:
Nature Reviews Computing has a vacancy for an interim Associate or Senior Editor for an initialsix-month period.
Nature Reviews Computingwill launch in January 2027 and will publish commissioned high-impact Review, Perspective and Comment articles covering the full spectrum of computer science and its applications, including topics such as hardware, architecture, networks and communication systems, theory of computation, computing paradigms, AI and machine learning, numerical computing, and applied computing.
In particular, beyond surveying individual fields and setting standards, the journal wants to stimulate dialogue and bridge gaps between disciplines by showcasing synergies across computer science as well as highlighting its translational relevance.It will also explore the intersections between computing and society, emphasizing the global role of computer science. Nature Reviews Computingshould serve as an accessible, inclusive, long-term resource that offers a wide perspective for the future of the field.
As Nature Reviews Computingis a newly launching journal, the editors have the exciting opportunity to work with the Chief Editor to define and build this journal.
Role responsibilities:
Commission reviews and opinion pieces, applying Scientific Comprehension, Critical Scientific Evaluation, and Manuscript Assessment to identifytimelytopics and ensure commissioned content meets the journal's scientific and editorial standards.
Work closely with authors throughout the writing and revision process, demonstrating Communicates Effectively, Interpersonal Awareness, and Collaboration when providing feedback on synopses, developmentally editing first drafts, line-by-line editing manuscripts prior to acceptance, and developing ideas for figures and other display items. Leverage Scientific & Academic Writing expertiseto help authors communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and accurately.
Organize and manage the peer-review process, utilizingPublishing Workflows & Systems, Operational Excellence, and Decision Quality to ensure efficient handling of manuscripts, balanced reviewer selection, and timelyeditorial decisions.
WriteResearch Highlights and other editorial content, applying Scientific Comprehension, Critical Scientific Evaluation, and Scientific & Academic Writing skills to accurately interpret research findings and communicate them to a broad scientific audience.
Liaise extensively with the scientific community through visits to institutions and international conferences, building strong professional relationships through Collaboration, Interpersonal Awareness, and Communicates Effectively, while maintainingawareness of emerging research trends and opportunities.
Demonstrate Being Resilient in a fast-paced publishing environment by effectively managing multiple priorities, adapting to changing demands, and maintaininghigh editorial standards while meeting deadlines.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
A PhDin computer science. All suitable candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to those with previouseditorial experience and/or a background in areas of theoretical computer science, logic, formal methods, networks and communications systems, hardware and architecture, or distributed computing.
Broad scientific knowledge
The ability to absorb new areas of research, and identifynew developments and research trends in fields beyond their immediate specialty
Willingness to travel to meet researchers and learn more about them and their work; and to advertise the journal
Demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctnessand language (which will be assessed during the interview process)
Demonstrable writing ability
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Keen attention to detail
The position is offered on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis, and will be basedon a hybrid modelin our Heidelberg or Pune offices.
