Surgical Technician is responsible for providing assistance to the surgeon during the operating phase by passing instruments, draping and maintaining the sterile field, along with assisting the nursing staff in preparing the OR for the daily schedule.\nJob Relationships\nReports to the applicable Manager\nPrincipal Responsibilities\nPrepare and set up for surgical cases.\nOpen packs, trays, instruments and sterile supplies for the surgical procedure maintaining sterile conditions.\nCount the circulating nurse sponges, needles and instruments according to Policy and Procedure Manual.\nBreak down and clean OR rooms following each procedure.\nCheck and maintain supplies in at end of scheduled cases.\nUpdate surgeon preference cards.\nScrub and assist the physician during the operations.\nAssist nursing staff as needed.\nAssist with cleaning, packaging and sterilization of instruments and equipment.\nAdvise the supervisor of equipment repair needs.\nAnnual competencies for specific working area must be completed within designated month.\nPerform other job duties as assigned which may include clinical support assistant duties in the assigned department.\nComply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.\nAdhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.\nProvide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.\nEducation/Experience\nGraduate from an OR technician program or equivalent training.\nPrevious experience as OR technician, two (2) years preferred.\nLicenses/Certificates\nCST certified in the State of Illinois preferred.\nCPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities\nOccasional heavy lifting required.\nMust possess manual dexterity to handle equipment and appliances.\nMust possess good physical health.\nMust have the ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment.\nMust be capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and lifting.\nMust be able to stand and/or walk for long periods.\nMust be able to adjust to various personalities and situations.\nMust appear well groomed.\nMaintain professional behavior.\nConditions include exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue and contagious diseases
