Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the CNC Operator produces high-quality parts by setting up, operating, and monitoring all 3 types of CNC equipment to manufacture sheet metal components in accordance with production schedules and quality standards. The CNC Operator is responsible for maintaining productivity, ensuring product quality, following safety requirements, and accurately documenting production activity while supporting continuous improvement efforts.\nWhat you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)\nWhile each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:\n1. CNC Machine Operation\nSet up and operate CNC machines and related manufacturing equipment according to work instructions, blueprints, and production schedules.\nLoad raw materials and unload finished components safely and efficiently.\nMonitor machine performance to ensure parts are produced within quality and productivity standards.\nPerform tool changes, offset adjustments, and machine setup modifications as required.\nRead and interpret blueprints, job travelers, work orders, and technical specifications.\n2. Quality Assurance\nInspect machined parts using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.\nComplete first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to verify conformance to specifications.\nIdentify and report quality concerns, nonconforming parts, equipment issues, or process deviations.\nMaintain accurate quality records and inspection documentation.\nSupport continuous improvement efforts focused on product quality and process consistency.\n3. Safety and Compliance\nFollow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.\nWear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe, organized work area.\nSafely handle materials, tooling, cutting fluids, and equipment.\nParticipate in safety meetings, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nImmediately report safety hazards, incidents, or near misses to supervision.\n4. Equipment Maintenance\nPerform routine preventative maintenance and daily machine inspections.\nMaintain machine cleanliness and ensure work areas meet 5S standards.\nMonitor tooling condition and replace worn or damaged tools as needed.\nReport maintenance concerns, equipment malfunctions, or repair needs promptly.\nAssist with troubleshooting machine issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.\n5. Documentation and Team Collaboration\nComplete production reporting, quality records, scrap documentation, and downtime tracking accurately.\nRecord machine settings, tool changes, and production data as required.\nCommunicate production status, quality concerns, and equipment issues during shift changes.\nWork collaboratively with supervisors, programmers, quality personnel, and team members to achieve production goals.\nSupport organizational objectives through flexibility, cross-training, and continuous improvement efforts.\n6. Material Handling and Production Support\nVerify materials, tooling, and documentation before beginning production runs.\nMove materials and finished products using appropriate equipment while following safety procedures.\nMaintain production schedules by meeting expected throughput and efficiency standards.\nAssist with secondary operations, deburring, packaging, or other production support activities as needed.\nContribute to a positive team environment focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.\nWhat we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)\nWe each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:\nRequired Experience\nExperience operating and performing basic setups on CNC brake press equipment in a manufacturing environment.\nAbility to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, job travelers, and technical drawings.\nWorking knowledge of precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related inspection equipment.\nBasic computer skills and the ability to accurately complete production and quality documentation.\nAbility to perform basic machine adjustments, tooling changes, and quality inspections to ensure parts meet specifications.\nPreferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nThree to five years of sheet metal fabrication and/or CNC machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.\nExperience setting up and operating CNC brake press equipment, including tooling selection and bend sequence verification.\nKnowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, bending operations, and blueprint interpretation.\nExperience using precision measuring and testing equipment to verify part conformance.\nTechnical school training, machining certification, or related manufacturing education is a plus.\nStrong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to quality workmanship.\nDemonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.\nPhysical Requirements\nRemain standing on feet for long periods of time\nFrequent carrying, grasping, reaching, pulling, pulling, stooping for parts and supplies\nEducation & Certifications\nHigh School diploma or equivalent preferred\nWorking Environment, Schedule and Travel\nMust be flexible to work overtime as required\nHow we live our culture\nOur culture is at the center of what we do and, more importantly, who we are.
