Weil-McLain® is a leading North American brand of hydronic comfort heating systems for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings since 1881.\nHow you will make an impact (Job Summary)\nSPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Electric Melt Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining electric furnaces and all related equipment to produce high-quality grey iron. This role requires handling charge make-up cranes, furnace cranes, pre-heat equipment, and the hot metal carrier system. You will also perform refractory repairs and ensure the proper function of the melt system. Employees in this role will rotate monthly between different job responsibilities within their shifts.\nWhat you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)\nWhile each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:\nMaterial Handling & Preparation\nLoad and unload trucks with necessary materials.\nBreak scrap materials into usable sizes for remelting.\nWeigh and add alloys to ensure proper composition.\nOperate pre-heater burner systems and monitor control alarms.\nFurnace Operations & Metal Processing\nTransfer charge buckets and empty them into furnaces.\nPerform slagging operations and transfer melt materials.\nOpen and close furnace lids while monitoring furnace performance.\nDispatch hot metal carriers and pour the correct amount of iron into ladles.\nTransfer iron to holding furnaces and take iron temperature samples.\nEquipment Operation & Maintenance\nOperate and maintain charge make-up cranes, furnace cranes, pre-heat equipment, and hot metal carrier systems.\nMonitor controls for alarms and perform basic troubleshooting as needed.\nEnsure all equipment is functioning properly and report malfunctions to supervisors.\nRefractory Repairs & Ladle Preparation\nRepair furnace spouts, lids, slag lines, and holding furnace components.\nRebuild and maintain ladles as required.\nPrepare A-Line ladles for pouring, including checking temperature and adding chill if necessary.\nSafety & Compliance\nFollow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).\nEnsure compliance with operational guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.\nPerform various related duties as assigned by the supervisor.\nWhat we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)\nWe each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:\nMinimum Requirements:\nHigh School Diploma or GED \nAbility to compute calculations for materials\nAbility to work in demanding manufacturing environment \nPrevious manufacturing and melting experience (Preferred)\nPhysical Demands/Work Environment:\nAbility to lift 50-75lbs \nMust be able to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods, as required by the job.\nRequires the use of appropriate safety precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) due to potential hazards associated with machinery or chemicals.\n*The above job description is intended to outline the general nature and level of work expected for this position.
