The Proposal Manager - Data Centers leads commercial proposal development, estimating, pricing, quotation management, and post-award order-entry activities in support of the Global Account Management team. This role serves as a key commercial resource responsible for developing accurate and competitive proposals for equipment, services, change orders, and project opportunities.\nWorking closely with Global Account Managers, Application Engineers, Project Managers, Operations, Construction, Legal, Sourcing, and other cross-functional teams, the Proposal Manager develops customer-facing proposals, coordinates commercial deliverables, and supports the successful transition of awarded projects into execution. While technical aptitude is required, the role leverages engineering resources for equipment selections, application support, and technical solution development.\nSuccess in this role requires the ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate possesses strong commercial, analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills, along with experience managing proposals, pricing, customer documentation, Salesforce opportunities, and order-entry processes.\nWhat you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)\nWhile each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:\nProposal Development and Commercial Support\nDevelop budgetary and firm proposals for equipment, services, and aftermarket opportunities.\nSupport Account Managers with proposal strategy, pricing development, and customer quotation activities.\nPrepare customer-facing proposal documents, qualifications, assumptions, commercial clarifications, RFQ and RFP responses, and bid submissions.\nManage proposal revisions, customer follow-up requests, and uploads to customer procurement and bidding portals.\nManage customer supplier registration and vendor onboarding portals, including maintaining company profiles, submitting required documentation, and monitoring registration and renewal requirements.\nAssume accountability for proposal quality, accuracy, responsiveness, and submission deadlines.\nCost Estimation, Pricing, and Risk Management\nPrepare detailed cost estimates using internal systems, supplier quotations, subcontractor pricing, labor estimates, and historical project information.\nDevelop selling prices and margin recommendations consistent with business objectives and approval requirements.\nPrepare change order pricing and customer quotations for active projects.\nReview customer specifications, bid packages, commercial terms, and contract requirements.\nIdentify and communicate commercial, contractual, scheduling, and scope-related risks associated with opportunities.\nCross-Functional Collaboration and Process Management\nWork with Application Engineering to incorporate technical selections and solution recommendations into customer proposals.\nCoordinate with Subcontractors, Suppliers, Construction, Project Management, Operations, Sourcing, Engineering, Legal, Finance, Service, and Sales to obtain accurate scope and pricing information and ensure proposals are complete and compliant.\nCoordinate proposal reviews and approval processes with management and supporting functions.\nDevelop and maintain pricing models, quote documentation, and proposal templates.\nMaintain accurate proposal records and supporting documentation in company systems, including Salesforce, ERP, and quotation-management platforms.\nIdentify opportunities to improve proposal processes, documentation, and cycle time.\nProject Award and Order Management\nSupport the transition of awarded projects from sales to execution teams.\nGenerate and coordinate customer submittal packages, working with Engineering, Project Management, and other cross-functional teams to ensure required technical documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule.\nReview customer purchase orders, contracts, awarded scope, and supporting documentation to ensure alignment with approved proposals, pricing, terms, and project requirements, and confirm all documentation is complete prior to order release.\nCoordinate with Sales, Project Management, Operations, Finance, and Order Management teams to facilitate timely order entry and project kickoff activities.\nEnter awarded projects, change orders, and associated documentation into ERP and business systems in accordance with established processes.\nSupport project teams in resolving scope, pricing, and order-entry discrepancies that may arise during project execution.\nWhat we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)\nWe each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:\nRequired Experience & Skills\n3-5 years of experience in proposal management, estimating, project management, sales support, HVAC, mechanical systems, data center infrastructure, or a related industry.\nExperience developing commercial proposals and customer quotations.\nStrong commercial aptitude, financial and business acumen, and cost-estimating and pricing experience.\nStrong organizational, analytical, project-management, communication, and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and data accuracy.\nAbility to interpret customer specifications, commercial requirements, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation.\nProficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.\nExperience with CRM, ERP, and quotation-management systems, including Salesforce to manage opportunities, quotations, proposal documentation, approvals, and customer interactions.\nExperience supporting order-entry processes, project handoffs, or sales-to-execution transitions preferred.\nIdeal Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities\nExperience supporting large, complex projects.\nWorking knowledge of construction, mechanical equipment, industrial systems, HVAC applications, or data center infrastructure.\nExperience navigating customer procurement or bidding portals.\nStrong technical curiosity and ability to understand complex equipment solutions.\nRisk-assessment, contract-review, commercial-analysis, and cross-functional project-coordination skills.\nCustomer-focused, process-oriented mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, adaptability, collaboration, and results.\nEducation & Certifications\nBachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field preferred.\nTravel & Working Environment\nOffice environment with varying noise levels.\nOccasional travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, construction sites, or industry events.\nMay occasionally be exposed to construction or industrial environments
